Seats
I recently obtained an e39 wagon with sport seats. I am thinking about changing, primarily because the seats are not heated. I understand the best seats for my car were sold in the e38s and would like the views of folks here.
In particular, there was a sport seat for the e38 that had a set of upper back adjustments and lumbar adjustments that my seats lack. Then, there are the "active" comfort seats with the seat bottom that moves to relieve stress on long drives. I guess I am interested in comments on the trade offs between the sport seats, with higher side bolsters on the seat cushion and adjustable thigh support v. the comfort seats that are flatter but have a mechanism designed to relieve stress on the back for long drives. Can folks who actually have these seats let me know what its like to live with them.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I've seen some folks just rave about the comfort seats, which is part of my thought process.

What type of driving do you do most? Long daily commuting? Short trips around city? Long freeway drives? Spirited twisty roads?
The comfort seats do have a great range of adjustments and are very comfortable. They provide almost no lateral support though. The sport seats provide excellent lateral support and bolstering, and for a tall person the thigh support is invaluable. It has decent lumbar support but the lack of adjustability is disappointing. The seats you're looking for are the contour seats. They're what came on the E38 sport models and are the best of both worlds. It's basically a sport seat with fully adjustable lumbar and the articulated back from the comfort seats. I've owned all 3 and the contour seats are just unbeatable. I haven't had the active seat option so I can't say if it's worth it, but unless you do frequent multi-hour freeway trips I wouldn't make it a priority to even look for.
