EWS affected by weather?

I have a 1995 525i
I have two sets of keys.
First set, original key- Opens PASEENGER DOOR and turns IGNITION on.
Second key- Not car original; opens the driver door and the trunk.
The car is setup for keyless entree but I do not have the remote.

Problem: Everytime I get into my car, I have to unlock the passenger door, which I'm guessing unlocks the EWS system. Then the car drives fine. I do this everyday.
Recently there was a sudden cold front in my state and the trick doesnt work anymore and the car locks up....until late in the afternoon after the sun heats my car a little.
Can the weather affect the EWS system somehow? If so, is there a way to warm up the part faster?
Also, could I solve the situation if I aquire the remote key that goes with the car?

Probably an electronic component has failed and is now working better in warmer temperatures.

To clarify, do you mean the the locks "lock up"? What exactly does the car do when you turn the key to the crank position when it is in this failed state?

On an ordinary day, if I forget to unlock the passenger door, and try to turn the engine nothing will happen to the engine. The lights will work and radio has power but car wont even try to turn over; also the windows wont roll down and the wiper blades won't move.
Now normally if this happens I just remove the key from ignition, unlock passenger door, and everything works fine and car runs.
In cold weather it stays "locked" if I do the same routine. The doors never lock down on me, the problem is only in the lock down of the ignition.

Yeah, that does sound like a ptoblem with the EWS. I have some experience with it, but was not aware that it was tied to the door locking mechanism.

A remote possibiliy is that your general module may have gone a little haywire.
