What does BMW PPK stage 1 do to your exhaust?

Well, I finally got to set up my rig properly and record it as should be done - while driving. I hope more of you will understand why this idiot drives with open windows in range from 35 F to 90 F - even though I never, EVER, drove with my windows open since I got my first car with AC in 1995 back in Europe.

Car is bone stock except for above mentioned PPK stage 1. It's an N55 engine.

The video quality suffered a lot while I had to convert it for Youtube to accept it, if anybody knows how to upload raw MPEG4 videos from GoPro straight to Bimmerfest, let me know it and I will redo it.

Wow, that sounds great with just PPK1 and stock exhaust. I have Dinan exhaust (only performance mod) and my N55 sounds nothing like yours ... unless I'm over 5000 revs. The gurgle/throatiness is what I want at lower revs. If PPK vs. Dinan Stage2 can make my car sound like that, I'm wayyyy down for a growling 317 lb-ft over a silent 401 lb-ft experience! But then again, I'm wondering if the stock exhaust (with vacuum line) is what creates that sound. Dinan exhaust eliminates the vacuum, and I have a hunch a PPK flash won't do a thing for more sound.

I really can't say what it would do for the sound in your case. Just keep in mind this was taken with an external mic taped on the rear bumper. What you hear in the cabin with open windows is a lot less pronounced, but you still hear most of it and at lower revs for sure.

In the video I never got over 3000 - 3500 rpms roughly. I was doing max 50 mph in 4th before the downshift into a corner, the third was around that value in the corner.

I was on the fence and I decided to test the effect of PPK before I spent about $2k for BMW performance exhaust. I was very surprised with results and I don't know if I will go with PE in the future.

Niiiice sound Mark! How about a pull from stop up to at least fourth gear? Try the 3-4 shift at 110. Where safe and legal, of course.

Interesting - sounds a lot like mine with the flapper disabled, wonder if they disable or open the flapper earlier with the PPK software - sounds great though!

Now, let's talk HYPOTHETICALLY for a second ...

Let's say, hypothetically, because I would NEVER do anything like this and put children, dogs and blue whales in danger, that I already did do something like you asked. Only hypothetically, right? Well, the last place I would want that video to appear would be Youtube.

So, if I would, hypothetically speaking, of course, do something like this, would you hypothetically have other means for me to download that video for you instead of the Youtube?

They do have some adjustment with the PPK software that helps the sound and it more than likely is them playing around with the flapper in some way.

Sounds good Mark, even with stock exhaust. It's obviously hard to tell exactly in videos, but it does sound different than my PPK1/PE combo. Can't quite explain the exact difference, so may have to do a little listen to both your clip and mine in greater detail. My car is an auto, but that shouldn't make much difference. The pops/gurgles...love'em.

I will be back in Cincy in a couple weeks for the Holiday's (orig from there), unfortunately won't be in my 3 or we could have met up and compared "sounds"...

Maybe it's better this way - for 12 years I NEVER went back home to Europe for Christmas, but this year I'll be gone from Dec 15th to Jan 9th and going back to visit a family. Please do let me know when you are in the area next time, even without your steed, you can still see how live sound feels like instead of the video

pretty impressive, i was debating the PPK1 myself
