BMW "Teleservice"

What is "Teleservice" all about? I found this screen on my iDrive system, but haven't scheduled any service visits.

Why is the car interacting with BMW on its own, what information is being given and what can change programing-wise without our knowledge?

I don't think it has ever worked for me though. Car has never emailed me nor has my dealer called me because the car told them to.

Mine definitely has. Twice. I've gotten an email from my dealer saying "your BMW 535 has indicated to us that it's ready for it's regular service. Please call us to schedule".

It's creepy.

Hmm. Strange; I've never received and e-mail or call concerning servicing either. How would it know which dealer I would use anyway...

I don't think it does... it generates an email and then you call the dealer. I think otehrwise it would default to dealer of purchase.

I used to get emails from my purchase dealer 500 miles away.

The email I received prompted my to make an appointment at BMW of Peoria where I purchased the car. I live 1000 miles away and I have taken my car to BMW of North Houston since I've owned it. I have also set up an account on BMW's website and have BMW of North Houston as my preferred dealer so it must have something to do with where the car was originally purchased or registered.
