Quick question...the registration on my 328 is due soon, but I can make a "late payment" all the way until the end of July. Effectively this means that the current registration is valid until the end of July, right?

Your registration has a date that expires. You can go pass your due date and pay late but that would mean that your registration is expired.
On your registration renewal notice you should have all the info on fee increases and all. Sent from BimmerApp mobile app |

In VA, we can extend a month. Maybe you can do that in CA?

Ca is a Douche state.. Well my opinion living here all my life. When something here is due.. They mean "ITS DUE" if not on time they just say "ok.. Late fees"

If your in Cali you have an actual expiration date ( July 23rd as example ) on 7-24 your reg. is expired. Not the end of July. If you pay even one day late I believe your already getting late fee
Look at your reg. paper and you'll see the date. Sent from BimmerApp mobile app |

Btwy, I am looking at the registration renewal notice now. Sure, you can make a late payment, but as the table shows, the later you make it the higher the late payment penalty. And during that time you can get a ticket. Not worth it. Just pay up. |

Thx guys, looks like it does expire in May. Guess I'll need to pay. And I plan to return the car 3 days after the expiration, lol.

Don't pay. Cops give you a 1-2 month grace period in CA. Just return the car. The dealer will pass the fee on to the next buyer.

This sounds like a special situation. Ask your dealer too. And if they insist you still have to pay explore the option of returning the car a three days sooner. I imagine every leaser is in a similar situation. There is no lack of leasers on this forum so someone should be able to give you the right answer.

Here is the thing with the police. The only way they will know your reg. is expired is if the sticker still says May and we are in June... or if for some reason they run your plate like during a traffic stop or whatever. So if your reg. expires say May 20 and you turn in the car May 23, no police officer is going to know or ticket you for three days over unless you get stopped for something else and they run the plate with DMV. Just don't get stopped for a traffic violation in that three days and you are good to go.

Yep, that's what I decided to do, unless my CA tells me that I have to have it paid for some reason, in order to return the car. But I don't think that'll happen.
