Lightbulb Which X5 to get rid of?

OK, I'm going to trade in one of my two X5s, either:
2004 4.4 with 55,000 miles
or
2008 4.8 with 90,000 miles, almost 5 years old, and 100,000 maintenance warranty only. Needs rear tires ($1000), fix the winshield washer leak ($500). Cracked radiator just replaced ($1000).

for a new 2013 X5 5.0

Which one should I trade in/sell? The 2004 is in better condition mechanically (I did just replace all coil packs), but older, without sat radio, and not as nice looking. I don't have $tealer trade-in valuations, yet.

Any thoughts from the wise out there?
Thanks!

I would dump the 08 because it needs more stuff done to it. You can always sell the E53 privately later.

Yes, that's what I was thinking, but my wife lilkes 08 better. I enjoy the 04's lack of nanny electronics - no gong on it, and I can drive with the door open if I want! I'll see what the dealer opinon of value is.

I'd keep the car that will be the most 'fun' to drive. Trade value would be secondary.

Who will be the primary driver? They decide.

I'd prolly trade the eldest...

(and rear tires aren't $1000...)

I hadn't, because I wasn't that serious about replacement yet, but they are definately more reasonable there - about a 40% savings for something that would work!
Thanks!!

Yeah, it's almost always cheaper to just order tires off the internet and take them to the local tire shop to get them installed. My local tire shop has gone as far as matching tirerack prices these days.

Why would you Diamaris? You could get front and rear Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport Run Flats for a few hundred more. Jeez, the Pilot Super Sports are cheaper then the Diamaris.

Discount will match TireRacks prices anyway, no sense in not going with them, unless shipping works out to be cheaper then tax.

An E53 can be a handful from a maintenance perspective! Looks like you've only had it 10 months. Do you know whether the prior owner cared for it and chased maintenance items? Sounds like you've had the E70 much longer. Maybe stay with the devil that you know and dump the E53. That said, I like to drive my E53 4.8 more than my E70 4.8, and it sounds like you might like the E53 as a drivers car as well. Good luck in making a choice!

First Both cars are great for what they were designed to do.

Question is what do you know about the E53's service history vs the E70's service history. If the the E53 appears clean, then no brainer trade the E70. However if you`ve had the vehicle only a couple of months then yea It would be better to take it to your indie and check it out thoroughly.

No one can predict what will happen mechincally so I would try and make your guess, as informed as possible.

If you have time, and care, I would do the following:

1) Scour the web for possible faults/common repairs on each powertrain for your specific model. 4.4 had some issues i read on xoutpost so would check those out.
2) look at the service history for each vehicle, if you have them (BMW has restriced service history viewings to dealerships only, so if you have friend hit em up). See what issues/problem areas are recurring.
3) For e53, theres not much besides a reputable indie shop checkup in terms of finding what may possibly break. For the e70, since im guessing you bought this vehicle new, ask yourself how has it been thus far, and whether you have been doing the maintenance it needs. Usually if you are the only owner for a car, its better than a used vehicle, since you know what to look out for.

Hope that helps!

Which 5.0 r u getting
Msport or sport activity
I prefer the overall ride of the msport
the stance of the car and the way it sits particuarly
i believe it has a stiffer suspension then the sport activity?
same horsepower unless u get the performance package!
its so fast either way, ull totally love it.

One piece of puzze is in place: dealer is at $21,000 trade in on the 2008. I was ballparking $18-21000 for TRADE in value, so not great, but not horrific...
