Loss of power and Car Shaking- Coil and Spark Plug Replacement - Fixed
So a few days ago I was driving to work , stopped at the red light and my car suddenly started vibrating vigorously, when the light turned green I press the accelerator and there was minimum acceleration and after few seconds Service Engine soon Light came on.
I did a lot of research and found out that Autozone can read the engine error codes for free and gave it a shot. It turned out that my cylinder 2 was misfiring. It could be because of either the coil or spark plug (in line with what i found on the forums), I changed both. So I ordered the Ignition coil and spark plug from Amazon , It came in next day , I replaced it just for cylinder 2 and now my car runs as good as before if not better. Here are the instructions I followed http://forums.5series.net/diy-do-you...5/#post1087412 The instructions in this forum are for M54 engine but for N52 the process is very similar. The process is very easy if you are replacing coils and spark plug on cylinder 1 through 5. In the attached pic I have circled the Lock screws(just need to turn the half way used flat screw driver) Lift the cover and slide it to the right . If you are planning to change in cylinder 6 as well then you need to remove every bar , micro filter holding above the engine cover Cylinders go from 1(near to the radiator) to 6(near to the windshield). This process is so simple I am planning to change all the coils and Sparkplugs. 90k miles on my car. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck!!! |

Thanks for the update. This seems to be common within 45k and 55K. I replace mine around 48K.
My question, what's the lifetime on these Coils (N52 and/or N54)? |

120K miles on the original coils on my 530i. I may replace them proactively in the near future.
