Lock Cylinder and start over ride
Today on my 1998 740IL I encountered the Spinning ignition problem. Car was running. In order to get the car to turn off, I disconnnected the ignition switch.
Next I tried to get the lock cylinder out and broke the housing with the copper wire. Idid not know wha the copper wire was, but it is all out and in the garbage. I gather it was pretty important. I removed the ignition switch and tried to start with a screwdriver by turning the ignition switch. I did turn on, but would not start. I am assuming my key and lock cylinder has something to do with that. Is there any kind over security over ride so I can temporarily drive the car. Any help would be appreciated. |

Sounds like you threw a way the Ring Antenna. See the info below...your car isn't going to start until the EWS transponder chip (in the key) can communicate with your EWS control module and the car's DME/ECU...and the only way for that to happen is thru the ring antenna which powers the EEPROM (transponder chip) by way of a 125 KHz AM signal: (btw, you have EWS 3.2 so you don't have a transmitter/receiver)
