ignition is locked, wont budge

I have a 2000 328i and this has happened a couple of times before but this time the key will not turn at all. I Put the key in and try to turn it but it won't move. In the past I have been able to switch keys, or wiggle my steering wheel alittle and eventually get it work, but not this time. Luckly I was at home.
Any suggestions? better yet, any inexpensive DIY suggestions?

Bump maybe? Same issue with my 05 330ci convertible, but haven't got stuck-yet! Mine seems to be steering wheel/ ignition lock, but could be park/neutral switch.

Any answers from all our great minds out there?

Make sure the car is in park rather than neutral. Try tapping the key while it's in the ignition a few times then trying it, apparently that works. And if you haven't already try simultaneously wiggling the steering wheel while turning the key if you've been wiggling and then turning. Also try the aforementioned while your foot is on the brake.

Sorry but I can't help laughing. Can anyone explain why we all love these cars so much when apparently you need a "move" just to start it ?
