Assuming that year can use the BMW Scanner 1.4.0, I'd buy that. About 1/5th the price, and you can program with it too.

I bought a Peake tool about a year ago and it's paid for itself many times over.

I have one and love it. Paid for itself with coding the LCM to disable DRLs and code xenons. After that several instances of SES, alarm coding and what not. You can even see live data. However, if you have a 20 pin connector under the bonnet you will need a 20 pin to 8 pin adapter as well for the bmw scanner 1.4 to work with your car. |

I bought a 11 dollar bluetooth OBD2 reader from amazon. Works fine.

Harbor Freight has some good OBDII scanners. I scored a $130 model for $70 during the black Friday deals.

BMW scanner 1.4 is $33 and can code the car too. Adapter may be around $10. Much worth the investment if you plan to keep the car for longer time.
