Purchasing Accessories - Floor Mats

I am waiting for my 2013 X3 28 to be built. I was just browsing on line at the accessories and want to get the weather proof mats. If I order from the dealer, will they charge an installation price? I'm wondering if I purchase them online, if it will be cheaper even though I'll be paying for shipping. Also, what's the difference between floor mats and liners? I also want to get the mud flaps but will get them from the dealer because I want them to install.

I hope your dealer doesn't charge you an installation price for floor mats. The installation of the floor mats consists of removing the mats out of the box and placing them in your X3- that's it. No screws need to be tightened, no bolts need to be fastened. If they do charge you I wouldn't pay them and recommend you find another dealer.

You may be able to find the mats cheaper online. I see you live in the northeast like I do. I purchased the Weathertech.com Digital mats. They're a bit deeper than BMW's- better for melting snow.

For mud flaps it makes sense to buy them from the dealer since there actually is some labor involved in installing them.

My dealer gave me the entire set of BMW winter mats (including the giant one for the rear) free as a thank you for buying the car. Most SA's are given a small budget to spend on customer appreciation stuff like mats, hats, key chains.

Get the BMW set from your sales guy gratis and install them yourself.

Ditto - I have never had to pay for floor mats from BMW - when pricing my latest BMW, all of the dealers were willing to throw them in for free. Even if you have already ordered the car, you should definitely ask. Good luck

Carpet mats alsways were a chargeable dealer accessory. Beginning with MY2012, they became standard. The four all-weather flat rubber mats and three alternate plastic liners with lips are dealer accessories. The heavy rubber mats will stay in place. The light plastic front liners will slip unless you remove the driver's carpet mat to expose the velcro retainer that mates with the one on the bottom of the driver's liner. The front passenger's liner has no velcro and will slip unless you add velcro tabs on both surfaces. The full width rear liner covers the tunnel but the rear rubber mats do not. I have not observed a difference in the lip height of the BMW and Weathertech liners. I believe that they are the same except that Weathertech changes the logo for BMW.

My dealer said he would throw in carpeted and all-weather mats. I hope the carpeted mats have the extra thick rectangular section to reduce heel wear. I had that on previous BMW's and they hold up much better.

I have a set of the Weathertech custom all-weather floor mats on order for my 2013 X3. I usually end up keeping them in the all all year long and have found them to be much better than the BMW all-weather mats. YMMV

I will ask the dealer if he'll throw in the all weather mats. Thanks for the tip - I didn't think of that. I'll also check out the Weathertech ones, seems like a lot of people have positive reviews. I always see their commercial on tv with the golden retrievers.

+1. If you look at the BMW front floor liner it's exactly the same as the Weathertech liner except for the BMW logo and $20 cheaper.

We got the OEM rubber mats for our 2011 X3, gratis from the dealer. I installed them in a few minutes with no difficulties, so can't imagine there would be an additional charge. Highly recommend these mats; they fit perfectly and the driver's mat is well attached to the floor, no possibility of interfering with pedal usage.

Floor liners or all weather floor mats; which provide better protection and which stay in place better and do not slide ?

My x3 comes with free mats with no embroidery. I bought the additional mats from the dealer for about $140, which has BMW embroidery on the driver side mat.

I have the Weathertech mats and cargo liner. They are thicker than the liners at the dealer and I have always had great luck with them in the past.

I ended up getting the Weathertech mats and cargo liner for my new X3. I got them for Christmas. They've been great so far - we already got snow.

I think I might be a WeatherTech fan as well. I read online reviews that the BMW all-weather OEMs are not good so I went with what I have purchased before - WeatherTech. Bought them on Amazon and installed them in about 5 minutes today. I thought they would look cheap but I think they are fantastic, especially here in Colorado. I would recommend them over carpeted mats for any car in any city. If is run into any problems, I will come back and post again.

Mats for the front and long 1 piece for the rear seats were free. There is a matching top and floor Velcro patch to to hold in position a child could put them on place. Dealer includes them for free and most of them will likely have them in place for Goodwill.

I bought the Weather Tech liners for my 2011 328I as well as the trunk liner. Loved them so much that I am buying them for my 2013 X3. I am going back to Maryland/PA and will need the liners. Besides, I spilled two full soft drinks on my passenger front floor, and my carpet never saw moisture. I could not say that if I had had just the floor mats:-)Also loved them so much that I kept them after I traded the 328 for the X3. I put the original floor mats back in the car before I gave it up. If they are not going to give me anything for them, I will keep them:-)
