BMW Remote App and Navigation

Was curious how many either use or were aware of the ability to look up addresses on your device utilizing the BMW Remote app, and then send the directions to the vehicle. It then shows up as a message on the messages folder and from there you can set the destination.

I have the ability through the OnStar remote app and my 2012 Cadillac CTSCoupe, and I was pleasantly surprised that the ability exists with the BMW app too.

I have not seen it mentioned on the forums.

I LOVE this feature.

To be clear it's through Google Maps on any browser. Great feature, saves a lot of scrolling and searching via i-drive.

I guess, I have only used it through the BMW Remote app on my iPhone and iPad.

Is a subscription to BMW Assist required or will it still work if I don't renew?

I'm pretty sure our CA said that you can only transfer the info from google maps to the I drive via regular computer browser...mobile apps like iPhone or iPad won't work for transfer.

Well that's not true. I have ONLY used the BMW Remote app to search and send.

I use the BMW Remote app on my iPhone 4S all the time. The Google Local Search lets you pull the address from your Contacts, paste an address into the search field or use the Microphone on the keyboard for voice entry.

Once it finds the address on the Map view, click on the List button just below the map. You will see the address ( or addresses ). Touch the address of interest and it sends it to the car almost instantly, whether you are driving or not.

Much faster than the Nav search by name.

Good news then... Trying it now

I use both the APP and Google Maps on a daily basis...they both work great. I prefer the app.

I can't use the office connect because I don't have BMW apps in the car. Can it be installed or has to be installed my the manufacture???

The BMW app I am referring to is the one on your smartphone. If you have BMW Assisst available it should work for you.

How do I find out what my BMW Assist user name and password are?... assist was working when I picked up the car....ask my CA? BMW Remote won't let me log in...account locked... BMW Connected drive working well. The remote app looks cool but my user name and password from my BMW USA account isn't the one for it so there must be a unique one for BMW Assist.

I'm having the same issue. Unsure of my user name and pw and I can't sign up on the BMW website either.

Go to My BMW online or press the BMW assist button in the vehicle and the rep should be able to help you.

That is partially true. The regular smartphone map apps cannot transfer locations to the iDrive but the OP is referring to BMW's own iPhone app which can.

Correct, I am referring to the BMW app, but the BMW app utilizes Google maps.

I wonder how long it will take BMW to release a version of the remote app for android that works on Jelly Bean.

Actually it uses MapKit with on iOS6 uses Apple Maps. It dies however use the google POI database on all versions of iOS.
