Oyster Upholstery
I am considering a Modern 328 and would like to know if anyone has experience with the light colors for the upholstery.

I think they look great! Take a look at the link in my signature for close ups of Everest Grey.

They look great, but be warned that if you wear dark wash jeans the dye can rub off onto the leather.

Light colors look great but are harder to maintain and will show wear sooner than dark colors.

Everest gray is an awesome color. Lighter colors look better . Black interior tends to wash out and look a little dark for my taste.

You might want to ask in the E9x forum. Oyster was available across the line with the E9x and you'll find more people who have it over there. I think it would be fair to say most who have it like it.

With proper maintenance, dakota leather, regardless of color can look amazing for along time. If you have that level of dedication is a different story

I have the Modern with the Oyster interior. I love it. I know I'm in the minority, but I like the light leather seats, dash and wheel. No regrets at all. Plus, with a yellow lab, the dog hair doesn't show. Yeah, it'll show more dirt. But if you're on this message board, I suspect you're the kind of person who'd be taking care of his interior regardless of color. So it'd never get to a state of "dirtyness", anyway. If you like it, get it.

We had the tan color in our last BMW. It was fine but like others have said, it did show dirt and wear, slightly. It was leatherette so what I didn't like about it was in the summer it felt like I was sticking to it. But the color was fine.

It's all a matter of taste, of course, but the Modern interior ambiance reminds of me the guys you see on the streets of Paris and London dressed in their slightly effeminate grey pin-stripe suits with pink shirts, purple ties and man-bags. Not saying it's ugly...just pointing out it's very, ahem, "European".

Love the oyster leather. I have it in my 13 f30 modern line and also had it in my 11' X3. Great color! Now with having three kiddies can't say I am as eager to have the lighter colored carpet too, but can always bust out the carpet cleaner couple times a year I guess! My modern line also has dark pearl painted trim that I have fallen in love with the look of.

Had Oyster over black on a Deep Sea Blue E90 (since sold). It did not grow on me. Kind of reminded me of bone, in a way.

Oyster/Everest Gray are good choices and for the nay sayers lets not forget BMW is a European car.

Thanks for your responses. We opted for black upholstery after looking at the lighter options at the dealer.

Black interior is very gloomy to me but I might be more likely to get black in an f10 with ceramic control and napa leather.

I just ordered today a 328i with brown leather. If I were ordering a sports model, for sure I'd choose the red leather. I once had a '73 black italian car, a Lancia Coupe with red leather interior..*****, it looked great. There's an old saying in spanish " para el gusto se hicieron los colores". For the taste were colors made. So, enjoy your cars and others be damned

It's the exact opposite of the exterior paint. Silver or white seem to hide blemishes much better than black. But on the inside, it's the exact opposite. Believe me, I know. I can't even remember all the cars I've had... Black might look gloomy, but black ages much better than lighter interiors. Especially if you have kids... |
