Is it ok to mix engine oils?
Like Castrol and Mobil?

Won't hurt; especially if they're both LL01 or similar.

For "need a quart" situations in between oil changes, I've never worried about this. Don't know if I'd do it for an oil change (i.e. - 4 quarts this, 3 quarts that), though.

Help!
The manual says use 5w-30 or 5w-40 for top offs. I bought Mobil 1 5w-30. Then I get on the website and it doesn't say its on the list of approved oils? I have a 2008 328xi. I only topped off like half a quart. What do I do now?!?!? |

Don't worry about it. Use the oil in your lawnmower (or other vehicle). Buy a bottle of Mobil 1 0W-40 to use in the future. Look for LL-01 on any bottle you buy. Or look for ACEA A3/B3/B4 (which is what LL-01 essentially is.) Pay no attention to API or SAE ratings, they're c%^p.

JK - no problems. I have been using Mobil 1 5w-30 long life oil since day 1. 130000 miles on my X3, 101000 on my 530, 45000 on my Z4. No motor problems on any.

Don't worry. Just do try and buy oils with the correct ratings and in the weight 'neighborhood'.
