Hi Folks,
I'm new to the forum and new to BMW DIY. My wife recently purchased a 92 525i that needs a little work. One of the problems I'm working on is a vibration at about 65MPH. Lots of threads on this subject. Thanks to this forum I found that my thrust bushings were bad... so I purchased replacement bushings and the tool to get the old ones out. What a PITA.... and... it turns out my ball joints were bad, too... so I had to buy and install new thrust arms. Sure wish I would of read that thread first (replace the whole arm rather than just the bushings). The vibration is still present. I ordered new lower control arms and hopefully will get to them this coming weekend. Question: Is it possible for a machine shop to replace the ball joints on the control/thrust arms? Can I buy just the ball joint part and have them press the old out and put the new in....??? Where? Every place I look the whole arm with the BJ is the only option. Rather than buy another set next year, I'd like to get the old ones refurbished to have as spares. So far I've put on new rotors, brake pads and sensors. Changed the oil/filter. 2 new front tires. New Coolant level sensor, cooling system bleeder screw, Oil pressure sensor housing gasket, repaired the rear window regulators, fixed the seat adj cables and switches. Replaced the windshield washer spray nozzles. |

The ball joints are not sold serperately. You must replace the arms.
