Dent on Trunk :(

So I was backing out of a parking lot today and I accidentally hit the a small tree behind me. It left a palm sized dent on the bend on the trunk lid. I want to fix it but I don't know how much it costs. Anyone have any ideas?

hmmm....it may be less expensive to replace the trunk lid than it would to completely get out that dent.

I had some nasty dents in my roof because of a parking gate that came down on my brand-new Acura with black paint. It looked way worse than your trunk. Paintless dent repair got it to pristine shape.

Also take the opportunity to get rid of that goddamn stupid dealer badge they put on. I'd want to make them fix the trunk just for putting that silly thing on the first place.

Ouch. Good luck with the repair. Next time, get the park distance control.

Paintless Dent Repair will not be able to fix that. Your decklid will never be the same, it needs to be replaced.

Your decklid alone is $644, plus labor and paint. If you want the color to match, it will probably require a paint blend into both quarter panels. Rough guess is $1800 - $2000 by the time it's all said and done.

Go out an get some estimates. I used to work at a collision shop.

Thats not fixable using paintless dent wizard type repairs....sorry. Do a new lid and seek out a super high quality shop and you'll never know it was done.

I thought the exact same thing. The heck is with that retardedly long name!?!?

@OP - Also look at getting a replacement trunk and compare the price differences. Maybe get an M-sport one?

Paintless Dent Removal is only successful when the dent is not creased or located near an edge or body crease.

Easy on the dealer "badge" there fellas, I'm 99% sure it's just a dealer license plate frame...yes it needs to be taken off regardless

An M Sport trunk lid? Really now? There is no such thing.

I thought it was a dealer badge too, but if you look closely at the pic, you can see pretty clearly its a licence plate frame (I agree with you).

To the OP, about a year ago, my wife did not pull her 2009 528i far enough into the garage, and pushed the automatic garage door button to close the garage door. The car was JUST far enough inside the garage for the door to "scrape" the trunk lid in pretty much the same spot you have your dent.

The scrape was down to the metal, so I took it to a body shop to get it fixed. It cost me $850 for them to remove, sand down, repaint, and re blend etc the trunk lid. I did not use my insurance as I did not want my insurance fee's to go up. I found that it would add a "point" to my driving record for insurance purposes

The $850 I paid out of pocket would have turned into an increase of $400-450 a year, for 3(!) years. So a minimum of $1200.00 to use my insurance, or $850 now.

Get 2-3 quotes on cost, then decide if you want to use insurance or pay out of pocket to fix it yourself. Hopefully its only a few hundred to fix, OR its expensive enough that it makes sense to use your insurance to fix it.

Nope. Of course even if there was there is no "F" ///M3 sedan right now.

Yes thanks guys, so i went to an auto shop to see if it could be repaired by PDR but they said it couldnt cause of the stretches it caused elsewhere on the trunk . i guess new trunk is the only way to go. Sigh need to work more now. Unless anyone is willing to spare me a brand spanking new trunk lid?

Did you see how the claim would effect your insurance? I'm making an assumption that someone with a new BMW is not driving around with no insurance, or with just liability...
