What does the "A" designate?

in a 2003 530i. The seller says it is a 2003 530iA. What designates a "sport package"? Thanks, I am new here and I did a search.

A= automatic tranny

An M package is the sport package. It'll have an M on the steering wheel.

It could be a sport w/o an M on the steering wheel. All 6 spds would be sports though there are automatic sports too.

Not all sports are M-Sports, as many people like to think these days.

All sports after 98 I believe had a steering wheel with ///M on it. Not 100% sure on the tear though.

My 99 has the ///M on the steering wheel, along with the tri-colour stitching.

It varies I believe. I think the only true way of seeing sport versions is the shadowline and the 17" sport rims. then I believe it has the sport suspension. The sport steering wheel and the sport seats may or may not be present. My 2000 528iA Sport got the shadowline, rims, suspension, and steeringwheel (w/o the tricolor stitching). And correct me if I'm wrong, but you won't find the inline 6 engines with the 6 speed trans on E39. I also think the manual Sport version has an M in the gear shifter (at least in Europe).

I also believe it wasn't until 2001, with the facelift, that the E39 got the M-tech package with the M-tech bumpers and exhaust tip.

Nope. All '03 sport equipped pkg cars have an M on the steering wheel because they have the M sport steering wheels. I also know the '02 has it and the '01 but the '01 has the diamond shaped air bag.

The tri color stitching was never offered from the factory except on M-5's, at least on US cars. Since your from Vancouver maybe yours did??

Perhaps European M-Sport wheels had tri-color stitching? Maybe it was an option?

Question 2000 528ia sports package

oil was in radiator then, overheated. had everything replace i.e radiator, thermostat etc...
there's still little droplets of oil, is that just from not cleaning cooling system out all the way? mechanic said that head gasket was fine. no anti-freeze in oil though. i've noticed a small oil leak coming from gasket on head cover right near the radiator cap. what else should i do??
