Ordered DGM2 car delivered as Sophisto

I had a 2013 550i X Msport delivered last week. Great car.
Still deciding Dinan S2 or Hartge.

Issue: I ordered the car DGM2 and the car was delivered as a Sophisto Grau which is not a BMW NA color.

I parked my car next to a DGM2 F10
and they are two different colors.

How does this happen?

Thoughts?

Dealer has asked me what I want to do...

It's simple, do YOU like the color? If not, return it and ask for some compensation until the right one arrives.

Sophistograu is the name for DGM. Not sure if it matters between 1 and 2. Apparently you must have gotten DGM1? Congrats if so.

It most certainly is a North America color. That is what is says under the hood of my car.

DGMII was formulated, I believe, due to a shortage of pigment or other paint content from Japan. Everyone wants DGMI, which in the German market, is known as "Sophisto Grau". This must mean the original paint content is again available, and BMW has reverted back to the original color. Or, does anyone know, did they keep the same German name even after switching to the DGMII formulation?

My car appears darker in tone with more metallic shiny stuff (pearlescence?) than the DGM2.

Both cars were very clean and obviously in the same light.

I do not dislike the color. Just wondered how/why the color was different.

When I go the BMWUSA.COM or BMW.CA the color does not exist.

Yep, there never was a DGM in Europe. The paint designation changed from Sophisto Gray (color code A90) to the darker and less "sparkling" Sophisto Gray II (code B90) due to the pigment shortage caused by the nearby Fukushima disaster (which happened while my car was on order).
BTW Sophisto Gray II looks almost identical to "Singapore Gray" offered on the M5.

DGM has always been the North American "translation" of Sophisto Gray, so DGM II should equal to Sophisto Gray II. No idea why there should be a difference with the OP's car.

The color panel says B90/7 what do the US DGM2 panels say?

I went for '98 Aspen Silver to '03 Sterling Grey to '08 Titanium Silver to this Charcoal colored machine... Except for the '08 Titanium they were sight unseen and were fine. I have enjoyed both e39s and the e90.

B90 is DGM II. A90 is DGM I.

As others have said Dark Graphite Metallic (1 or 2) is the same color that is called Sophistograu in Germany. It's just a marketing name, like Amazon Silver, Frozen Black or Estoril Blue. It's the same paint color, regardless of origin. Different markets sometimes name things differently.

So your vehicle order as delivered is correct. There is no issue. And the fact that two cars next to each other look different is in your mind. The paint is applied robotically by very precise machines. While some minute difference is to be expected, looking "completely different" is nearly impossible unless the cars were painted by hand.

The fact that your dealer has no clue about this and is letting you make an issue of it is also pretty ridiculous and a major fail on BMW's part with respect to training.

FYI, the same paint is called Mojave and Havana in different markets.
