Stop/Start Issue

Saw older threads re stalling but this is a bit different. On three occasions when restarting from a traffic stop the transmission shifted from Drive to Park. Dealer checked and advised, per the invoice, "transport mode active in several modules. Deleted transport mode cleared fault memory." That was two weeks ago and the problem has resurfaced twice this week. Hopefully not a big issue and I wii be returning to dealer for correction. Wondering, however, if anyone else has had this problem.

There have been a few reports from others. I expect that they will be along any moment to tell you about their experience. I just stopped in to suggest that this can easily be a very dangerous thing for your car to do and that the dealer is capable of having the Start/Stop feature modified to remember how you left it when you last used the car. So you can then leave the feature off, which is going to be a whole lot safer way to have it, don't you think?

Similar issue for me: transmission went into neutral when I released the brake pedal and I only realized it by the sound of the engine over-revving when I pressed the accelerator. I'll be having this checked and installing the start/stop 'last setting' fix soon.

I'll do likewise. I originally thought my trans slipped to neutral, but didn't really check the selector. Subsequent events all shifted to Park.

I have had this happen, but my hand was on the gear selector... I think I shifted it, without realizing it.

I have had this happen five times now. Seems to occur when the car first comes to a stop and autostop gets activated. The shifter automatically clicks to park. Worse, I am unable to shift out of park; requires the whole car to be shut down and restarted.

The first three times I had an iPhone 4 or 5 with bluetooth on, downloading data right next to the shifter. The last two times the phone was in sleep and in my left pocket, away from the shifter.
This is a big, unpredictable problem! Nothing like sitting stuck in park at a light in your new BMW!

This whole thing skeeves me, guys.

I strongly suggest that you insist the dealer reprogram the behavior so that it defaults to the last setting. They are authorized to do it by BMW, so don't take any crap. Then turn it off and think twice or even three times before you ever use it again.
