BMW 540i 1995 --- shocks/struts?

I'm aware this is probably a ridiculously ignorant question, however i just got my car, a 1995 540i a few months ago, and i'm just wondering. Does it use struts or shocks? D: please help.

I believe its the older 1995 model, being manufactured earlier in the year

Go to Pelican parts, and search for shocks.

Have www.RealOEM.com at the ready, enter the last 5 or 6 of your VIN, and go from there.

Folks here are very helpful, but YOU are expected to put some effort in yourself.
Your car is 17+ years old.

Yes, the car has four shocks, one at each corner. In the rear they are traditional seperate shock absorbers and springs. The McPhereson strut is used in front. The actual shock absorber is fitted inside the strut tube and surrounded by the coil spring as one large unit. Changing front shocks requres the removal of the strut assembly from the car and the coil spring from the strut, the shock is a cartridge inserted into the strut tube.

oop. Found it. They were two shocks in the front, and two struts in the back. My car doesnt have the electrical suspension, or anything of the sort, so its just that. Otherwise, it'd have all four struts i believe. Good to know! Now i just had to buy the strut mount...its worn out so man, does that thing make some squeaking noise. thanks to all!
