3 Civilization Types

I love this guy. I always wish I could be around to witness and be a part of our civilization actually being Type I or Type II. Right now we're Type 0 which would probably explain why we never get to communicate with aliens; if they're Type 1 or 2 or 3 then we're like insects in comparision. And nobody communicates with insects, except toy with them

If anyone's interested, check this short clip out.

This guy seems more science fiction writer than serious physicist. For more on the transition from Type 0 to Type 1, look for a book titled The Toolmaker Koan, can't remember the author. It's Scifi, but it deals with that question. Basically, once a civilization starts manufacturing tools, and mastering its planet, it's self destruction is assured.

For a serious discussion of why we exist on our planet and why life seems so rare on a galactic scale, even though the math should favor it, read The Grand Design by Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow.
