Just saying hi :)

Hi folks, I've been on bimmerpost for awhile and didn't venture to any other forums due to the large and vibrant E90 community there. I recently switched from an E92 335i to an E89 Z4 35i and noted that the E89 forum on bimmerpost doesn't have a whole lot of traffic. I guess it's due to the low volume of our cars. Thought I'd post here as well Just wanted to say hi!

Welcome aboard. I too came from an E92 to and E89. It is a huge difference, and I agree that it is pretty slow in here so I still go back to the E90 forum every once in a while to see what is going on.

Congrat's on the new Z. Excellent color and car. I just got my 1st BMW ever and Z in Space Grey Metallic. I looked hard at the same color, same wheels, etc. Loved it but the dealer was firm on the price, only to reduce the price on the car $5K 3 weeks later after it did not sell.
I too wish there was more traffic on the Z forum for all things modified, technical, electrical, etc. I love to see what everyone else is doing with there cars.

Nice car. Can I ask how it compares with the e92 from a handling and ride quality standpoint? Do you have the sport package on both?

Yes I have sports package on both. Although on the E92 the damping is fixed, and on E89 the damping is controlled by Dynamic Driving Control.

I feel like it's twitchier than the E92; more tail happy. I guess it has to do with the fact that it's 16 inches shorter. Ride quality with the the DDC on "Sport" is similar to the E92 - firm but not punishing. I have 19" RTF on the E89 right now, where as I had 18" RTF on the E92, then changed over to Michelin PSS, so it's a bit hard to compare there. I also feel like the steering on the E89 in "Sport" is a tad lighter than on the E92. Cabin noise at higher speeds is a bit more, but not by much and is certainly liveable. Haven't spent much time in "Sport+" mode yet, so that might change things.

Another question...is that windblocker between the roll hoops standard, optional or an accessory?

It's a $500 accessory But I hear it's standard for the 2013 MY.

ok cool. I remember back to my 2000 M roadster....there was no windblocker from BMW so I had an aftermarket plexiglass one...looked like crap compared to the current BMW one. So if you put your Z4 in comfort mode how is the ride quality? Does it soak up the bumps pretty well?

Ok drove a little bit in comfort mode. Definitely softer. It's no Lexus, but does absorb bumps pretty well. But the downside is that steering got lighter and throttle response got duller as well. I think if you are in automatic mode, shift point changes as well (I'm always in manual mode).

Thanks I'm normally not huge on Titanium Silver, but your car is gorgeous!
