Exhaust tips remove? drill out rivet??

Hi All,

I have bought my brother some chrome exhaust tips for xmas for his 2005 X5 3.0 petrol. I am struggling to get them to fit and in the instruction photo it looks like the current black tips need to be removed but it is held on by a rivet and I am a bit nervous about drilling into my brothers exhaust without being 100% on this.

Can someone help??? do I drill this rivet out and then it comes off?
