TPM sensor malfunction '07 335i convertible
have a 2007 335i convertible with sport package, the TPM has a malfunction and have that warning light its not a big deal. Went to the BMW dealership, pretty expensive to fix, went to have my tires fixed and they said they can I think replace the sensors, any thoughts on whether companies like americas tire company etc would be able to fix it, i mean is it as simple as replacing the sensors?

I think I read that the life expectancy of TPMS is like 5-7 years. Anybody can replace one - it is very simple, just take the tire off and replace the sensor, as long as they get the correct sensor, it will work fine.

You can replace just one or all 4 at a time. A full replacement set of 4 sensors is only around $200 from TireRack. Add $100 to remount and balance your tires, and the cost to do all 4 is only $300 or so. Anyone charging you much more (or shooting for more that $80 - $90 per wheel) may be taking you for a bit of a ride.

With non-RFs installed, the TPMS system is probably more important to warn of a leaking tire, therefore I'd recommend keeping the system.

Remember there are TWO TPMS frequencies that BMW uses. I believe they changed over to the new frequency in 2009. The 2007 TMPS sensor is reported to be a li-ion battery with a life expected to be 8 years.
I know that we all will face this with our cars. Why they didn't allow battery replacement is beyond me but just like battery registration I guess... |
