Concerned About Oil Change Interval
I own a 2012 M3 with about 8,000 miles on the clock. My service advisor is telling me I won't be due for an oil change until March 2013. That seems a bit excessive to me. The car is generally driven conservatively for short distances about five times a week. I'm looking for advice on how others treat the issue of oil change intervals. Thanks.

I'm a classic over maintainer because I expect 300k miles.
I change at 7,500 irregardless of computer. I don't reset the computer though until it says so...typically every other change. Google mike miller maintenance and drop him an email. I follow his advice. Now with the above said...you did get your breakin M3 service at 1200 right? Last edited by x3brian; 12-31-2012 at 07:03 PM. |

Oil should be good with your current driving habits. I change in between intervals due to some track duty.........Phil

Yes, had the oil changed at 1,200 miles. Sent email to Mike Miller requesting info. Thanks for your early and informative response.

Awesome! March probably is ok then. Figure you aren't far off from 7500 mile oil changes based on driving habits then.

Why the 1200 oil change? I had mine done close to 15000 and every other 10,000 never had a problem...just asking

Why??
The m3 requires the old school break in change. BMW recommends its and pays for it. The question is why didn't you want the same for your 335? I'm being rhetorical. It isn't necessary but my thoughts have been if its good enough for an M.... Also don't forget those spark plugs at 45k on the 335!!! Last edited by x3brian; 12-31-2012 at 09:16 PM. |

Thanks, did not do it for the M3 and for the 335 I have only 3k miles...didn't know about this, is it in the BMW recommended manual maintenance? I might have missed it. I am planning to go sometime in April for an oil change, close to 7500 miles.

M3 was a lease and I got the 335is. Both cars have great power, I love the lower RPM boost on the IS. Overall I like the IS better for driving in the city most of the time, plus it has M all over it (shifter, door sills, etc).
