Exclamation Annoying jerking motion after brake (2007 335i)

I have had my 335i (automatic transmission) for a few months and I am experiencing something very annoying. After I come to a complete stop such as at a red light, when I release the brakes the car would make a strong and sudden jump forward. It happens almost everyday and it's starting to get on my nerves.

Is this normal? Any info would be appreciated.

I have the very same problem. No answers so far. I think it's a software issue in the brakes.

I think that it's the hill-hold feature inappropriately engaging. I just have been too busy to take it to the dealer. But it's a problem.

Ours does it too. Scared I'm going to hit the car across from me in the parking lots. Good to know it's not just our car or our driving skills.

Add me to the list. I notice it more when the car has not warmed up. The brakes just seem to hold on as your trying to accelerate and then just let go and POP! Not good.

this sounds like the hill start off assist. does it happen if the ebrake is pulled up a notch? just enough to activate the warning light in the dash, but not enough to actually engage the parking brake. this should disable start off assist and confirm the problem is with that feature.

I personally dont have the issue, but I have a 6MT

I have a 2008 335i automatic sedan and I notice this when it is warming up more than at other times. It happens every morning at the light at the bottom of the hill by my condo, it is like clockwork. It is really annoying.

agreed, it happens on mine when the brakes / car is cold in the morning - first couple of application of the brakes only it seems.

I only notice this on my '08 335i if I do a quick stop-and-roll, like at a stop sign with no other traffic present at the intersection, or if a red light changes just as I'm about to stop completely. I just assumed it was the start-off assist feature not reacting quite as fast as my foot.

Hmm, came here looking for an answer to a VERY similar issue but before I repost, does the '08 328i also have this feature because I was BACKING my car into the driveway about 5 minutes ago and I was trying to slowly inch up so my car was in all the way and every time I released the brakes it felt like they were "sticking" for a second before letting up and allowing my car to roll back (I was in reverse). It was so annoying that I just put it in N and allowed gravity to do the deed!! My driveway has a very slight downward grade and is by no means "downhill" or steep. If this is part of the anti rolling, I actually think its dangerous because I wasn't used to it so when it felt like the brakes were "sticking" i gave it a little gas and it just jumped a lot more than I expected and I almost hit the tow hook on the back of my Jeep

I definitely notice this in the mornings before it has warmed up. I am taking my 07 335i to the dealer tomorrow for service on this issue. I will let you know what they say.

Mein Auto: 2008 335i Sedan (Ordered)
I just got delivery for a 3008 335i and I find the same brake 'sticky' issue. Especially when I'm going to park in a parking spot. As I get closer to the wall, the stickiness makes me scared, that I'll hit the wall, as opposed to smoothly get closer to the wall.

Any ideas as to how to fix this feature?

There is a fix! Take it to the dealer and tell him whats happening, they need to update the firmware/software or something like that. I don't remember exactly if they have to update the whole ECU, or if they have to just update the tranny s/w. The update also fixes the "bucking" or "jumpyness" of the car in the mornings after a cold night.

I called my SA and he told me about these issues. I was gonna get mine updated but he said it takes a whole day so I made an appointment for next week.....Let's see if it fixes it!

Please do let us know if any of you got this fixed at the dealership. My car does the 'jump' more often in the morning as well, and today it shot out almost a whole foot!

I lived with this for 18 months and finally took it in . There is an SIB for this....related to lurching from a stop when cold. It's related to a fuel saving software routine which disconnects the tranny while stopped for some reason. They updated my software and changed a setting and now its perfect! And the new software drives much better overall...the Sport mode is much more useable and shifts more smoothly. DO NOT let them tell you that they all do that...that's complete BS and that is why there is a service bulletin on the topic.
