535xi overheating-questions

Anyone had a water pump failure?
Going down the road my car gave
overheating messages, radiator fan
stayed on, so I pulled off the road
and let it cool down. Started it back
up, turned on the heater and no heat.
I'm wondering the symptoms of it being the thermostat or the pump.
Any help is appreciated.

Most likely the water pump. What's the mileage on your ride?

I'm taking mine to DC and will play with hers when I get back home. I was hoping it might just be a stuck thermostat,
but I might ought to order that pump with it.

Probably a pump - mine was replaced a 57K.

Thanks, Munich77. Maybe I should go ahead and order two. Both cars are about the same mileage.

With two of them you might get a group discount...also if you have not had the Walnut blasting you might be due for that too.

My 525xi is at 50K and I'm planning to save few extra bucks just in case. I'll probably get it by the time I hit 55k miles. What's the pump cost like? Anyone?

You need to replace the pump and thermostat. Then you should be good for another 75k miles.
The pump is electric and activates based on temperature readings. That is why the thermostat is also important. Be prepared to drop $5-600 for parts.

That's an unrelated climate control issue. Might require adjustment of the climate settings in iDrive or could be a faulty regulator that operates the flaps to the vents.
