wow rear DVD system

I got the system for free with my recent 535 purchase (dealer special of some sort). I also got an iPad holder (only one of those, unfortunately).

I tried installing the mounts today and either I'm doing something wrong or the mounts don't seem to be designed properly. The part that protrudes out toward the back seats isn't very long, and as a result, the lower part of the mount (the part that I slide the monitors onto) digs into the back of the seat when the headrest is lowered to a comfortable level. My girlfriend and I are both pretty short, so this might be part of the issue. It works fine if the headrests are raised up a bit.

The manual shows that this (short) part has a small piece and a wider piece, but on my set, I only have one section, which is all wide. It almost looks like I should be able to pull on the mount and have it slide apart, but it's not budging, and I can't find any sort of a latch, etc to release it. I couldn't find any relevant info in the manual, and there is no phone number listed for technical assistance.

Does anyone familiar with this system have any suggestions (assuming you can follow what I am saying here)? I really don't like the way that it restricts the headrest height, and if I can't get this fixed, I may just sell the thing on eBay. It is a real slick looking system, but this car rarely has anyone in the back seat regardless, and both of my kids have iPads which they prefer to a DVD system. Beggars can't be choosers and I'm not complaining since I got the thing for free, but it is kind of annoying that it doesn't seem to work real well with the seats in my 535.

Did you retrofit the full Factory system? Does it integrate fully to the iDrive like the factory system? Do you have part numbers and details please?

Looks great. More details please. I'd love to do this in my X5. Kids are driving me nuts.
