I've been looking around and have found some similar symptoms to what I'm experiencing but nobody has them all in one so I'm curious if this would also have the same solutions or something entirely different.
Here's the motor: 2001 M62 TU 4.4 with 130k
Here's the story:
I bought it with 120k and it drove great. Before a road trip I added a pint of Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner to the gas tank. After about 8 hours of driving, it gradually lost power beginning at about 80% then finally going into limp mode with only 20% power and any more throttle wouldn't produce any result past 5% throttle, and the motor was knocking and vibrating horribly. Simply pulling over, turning off, cooling off for a few minutes, then starting up would clear limp mode but it would come back about an hour later. I ran the codes and found 'see dealer', misfire, etc. The motor also developed a noticeable noise from either the valvetrain or a slapping timing chain. using a metal rod as a stethoscope I could hear the same rattle from both banks of the engine. After replacing the coils with Bavarian Autosport race coils, and NGK plugs, aFe throttle body spacer, and adding a K&N cold air intake, the motor died and would not restart - on an on ramp of all places. After towing it home and pulling the intake I found oil inside the manifold. After removing more parts I found oil filling my front, passenger side intake port. The car has been shelved while I look for a solution.
My best guess is the old motor never had any O2 sensors or coils replaced, the timing chain has never been adjusted, and the lucas detergent knocked some carbon off the valves which were actually sealing the buggers and now oil has seeped through the worn seals. I still have the motor torn apart and would like to replace busted parts if possible but I need to know where to start.
