Mein Auto: X5 4.4i sport
Question adjustable ride height switch does nothing, no blinking, no suspension inact.

I just recently purchased a 2003 X5 4.4i and i noticed that the switch to adjust the ride height does nothing, it shows a led in the normal setting but thats it. if u press it nothing happens, no blinking, nothing. BUT the car sits totally level and rides perfectly fine (no inact message). ive heard the pump kick on when i started it just last night and then turn off after about 30 seconds. im getting no indications that anything is wrong with the system, except that it dosent go up or down? all doors shut, car on, in park, am i doing something wrong?

It's possible the PO had it removed (Replaced with springs) and disabled. It is a popular modification to increase reliability.

yea i can see that being a possibility, maybe its not the pump im hearing? which is fine by me, less to worry about. Ill have to check underneath, what am i looking for? I did notice that my "problems" weren't really consistent with others, most people at the very least get a blinking light, mine literally does nothing. I haven't once noticed that the wheel gap has changed, and ive been looking.

I'm not 100% sure what would be a sure fire way to notice, but you could check the rear springs. If the air system was removed there won't be a boxy air cushion, but instead just a spring.

Yes, I think so. Not 100% on that. I can run out and check if you like. My X5 has operable air suspension.

Yep, looks like a gas shock and an airbag system on the trailing arm. (Or control arm, I always mix those terms up)

just to clarify, im not talking about the auto levling suspension system. im talking about the adjustable ride height which is an option and not standard. from what i understand they are different.

Hmm, I thought they used the same bags. Now I'm not sure.

UPDATE: so i figured out the issue, turns out it does have the system still. The reason it doesn't work is because the dealer locked it in the middle position, after the suspension had an overhaul before it went out onto the lot i got it from. they recommended that i didn't get it unlocked to keep the wear and tear on the system to a minimum. im still on the fence about what to do with it.
