(N63 / V8) Exhaust Smell inside the Car from engine department

Hi,

I have inside my 650i (F13) (same engine -N63- is used in 550i) a strong smell of exhaust. From my point of view, it comes from the right engine side ( in driving direction).

Unfortunately i can not find any leak or faulty gasket.

Was anybody also affected with this an knows the reason?

Thanks a lot!

Simon

Often the burning of coolant on the engine block is mistaken for the smell of exhaust in the cabin. Look for a coolant leak somewhere. It will probably be hard to find.

Could be bad fuel injectors or incomplete combustion caused by numerous issues with the 550 including plugs and coil packs.

As well, you may be getting fuel into the catalytic converters, which will stink--very noticeable. My 550 had this issue before it's Drivetrain Malfunction issue.

I second the coolant response. I had a few small leaks under the turbos that caused the coolant to sit (and heat up) between the heads in the V. The dealer took it all apart and repaired the coolant lines. No more burning smell!

Hi,

just for the records. The cause was a defective Pipe from the Crankcase ventilation. It was easy to change.
