Flaps on Roof of F10???

Just returned from a touchless car wash. I noticed on the roof of my 2012 550i, just above the driver's and passenger's doors, small flaps that are now open vertically. After turning the car off, the flaps remained open.

Does anyone know what these are for? Also, can I force them shut (i.e. not electronically controlled??) without damaging them?

Thanks in advance for any advice...

Flaps

These are where you would attach a roof rack... You should be able to just push them back down.

That makes sense. The car wash probably opened them, which is odd. I looked again and noticed what looks like a threaded cylinder inside each flap compartment for attachment of the roof rack. Thanks for your help.

I had the same thing happen right after I bought my car. I pushed hem back down and they've stayed that way.

It happened to me also. It's the blower at the end that dries your car which causes the flaps to open up.

I've also had my fuel door pop open as I exit car wash in addition to roof rack
May need to lock flap to see if that helps keep it closed

I have got them, when I activate the DOT the flaps open and the system ads the extra power.

I believe that BMW copied this feature from the Batmobile.

Apparently your car has the MRF option (Mitt Romney Flaps). They come in handy when you want to tie down the family dog to the roof of the car.

I'm sure someone on one of the coding forums is working on a code mod for this. Maybe DVDinMotion can offer it

Hey, it was just a 10-hour trip

And yes, it appears the flaps opened up because of the huge jet blowers at the local car wash.

Flaps

I told the guy at the car wash they were NASCAR type air brakes and were part of the stabilization system. I think he believed me.

If car is locked when you go through the fuel door will not open.

Only if you lock it from outside. If it's locked from the dash button or from auto-lock, the fuel door stays unlocked.

Darn, someone noticed the undocumented feature of the high speed longitudinal stabilizers. Keep up the good work about calling them anything but.
