My 2010 maps were not, but then again, perspective didn't do much.

It's almost headache-inducing on the 2013 maps.
My 2013 don't seem blurry at all.

In "perspective" mode (with buildings, etc.) it's pretty darn blurry. The white "route" line is much thicker, and almost grey, as compared to non-perspective-in-3D.

That said, the easy fix is "turn it off".

But there are a ton more buildings and other structures (open-air football stadiums have full interiors)

Am I reading this thread correctly?

BMW sells Nav map updates for roughly $250.

For $50, a hacker will crack the Nav FSC code for your car and show you how to download and install pirated Tom Tom maps?

I don't see this as getting a discount, rather paying someone to help you steal software.

Also, no one is concerned about downloading pirated map software from an untrusted Internet site?

Nope...BMW sells map updates for $45.00 (includes USB drive). FSC codes are available from various sources for anywhere from $50.00 (independent) to $400.00; don't ask me why anyone would pay $400, except for stupidity.

Yes, you can get a FSC code from BMW for around $200.00; but how do you know these independent suppliers don't have legitimate BMW encryption dongles, and are just working on a volume sales concept? Seems to me like you're jumping to conclusions!

The maps are available on the web. There's no getting around that now. The genie is out of the bottle and there's no putting her back in. People are free to choose what they want to do, as you are. Welcome to the 21st Century!

@sdbrandon

This whole thing is why Garmin, TomTom, Magellan, and others sell devices with lifetime traffic & map updates.

Google Maps (now available free for iPhone) has driven the price down to zero.

Other legitimate merchants offer Combox updates - are these "blessed" by BMW, or does BMW just look the other way since it's *hardware* instead of strictly software?

If you really want to push the envelope, search for the FSC key generator - it's available on the open Internet.

I completely take this back. This morning I was using the 3D Perspective view with a Navigation Route defined, and the Nav Route in White, and the main road in Yellow does seem blurry.

I don't normally use the 3D Perspective view, so I can't say if this in unique to the 2013 version, or if my 2012 was the same way though.

The Maps are OEM BMW Maps. BMW gives the maps away for free, and charges only for the media ($15 for the 3-DVD version and $40 for the USB Drive version), and the FSC Code (license). When downloaded, there is no media cost to pay. As for the FSC Code, it is not a hack, rather it is generated by many sellers based on the vehicle VIN number, same as BMW does it, but at a fraction of their inflated price. If an FSC Code seller is authorized to do so or not, that is between him and BMW.

If some people are somehow bothered by any of that, they are free to purchase the maps on BMW media, and buy the FSC code from their dealer.

So I assume to get the 3D perspective to work one would have to go into a city downtown or something? I have only seen lane assist work on my gps. I do have the 3D enable.

I am referring to just being in the 3D Perspective view, but not actually downtown with 3D Layout of the Buildings. In this mode, the main roads and nav route highlighting is actually a bit blurry.
