I am going to start all over again on placing the maps in the USB thumb drive. I transferred the data with a MAC, so I will try to get a Windows machine to get the data to the drive. I will do all of the reformatting and such also.

I appreciate the help.

Thanks you to Shawn for the help and patience he provided. Maps are upgraded and they now reflect road changes in my area. Even though my car is a 2012, and the road was completed and opened in 2010, the map on my car was way out of date IMO. This is not a minor backroad I'm referring to. Anyways thanks again.

I would like to update the map on my 2011 if you wouldn't sending me the information.

I would love the details as well. Will the code work on more than one car? I have a 2011 528 and a2012 328.

The FSC code is VIN specific so it will only work on one car.

Can anyone confirm that they have loaded the new 2013 maps on the 2009 328i and the prod date was Prod.date 2009-07-29.

I don't think my computer likes me this week and is giving me fits on getting the data to my USB again. Stupid VMWare!

Well I moved the data back to the USB drive and nothing. I waited for a few minutes to make sure the system has time to process the drive also.

I have a PNY 32 gig drive so I am not sure if that is the issue or what. I do know that I used that same drive to upload my music to the hard drive.

In theory, so long as the USB Drive is FAT32 formatted, it should work fine. I have not personally tried it on a MAC though, so I can't say with certainty.

I'll have to see if I can download it on a friends PeeCee if it does not work on my system.

I downloaded this on a MAC so it can be done. I used UnRarX to unrar it. That is free software and worked like a charm. I used the MAC mounting tool to expand the .img file

But I can't get the car to see the Drive/Maps. But I think that has something to do with my software version than anything. I don't know though.

I have also start this entire process on a Windows PC and no such luck that way either.

If you don't know, it can only be read from Exx Chassis using NCS Expert / Tool32 and and D-CAN Interface cable, which unless you are coding your car, you won't have. For Fxx Chassis, E-Sys and an ENET Interface cable is needed.

Here is what I can tell you. Officially the retrofit is sold on USB Media, only for cars with CIC from 09/2009 and on:



That said, I know dozens of people who have cars with build dates going back to 4/2009 who have successfully updated via USB.

I also know some people though have not been able to update until they have had the firmware flashed in their HU_CIC module, and I suspect this is your issue to, for whatever reason that may be.

I asume this can only be done at a dealer and I will be charged for it. Unless this is covered under the BMW warranty.

Software Updates / Dealer Programming is not covered by warranty. Now, if the car is in for service for some other issue or SIB and it requires programming, then you get a free ride.

It can be done outside the dealer for Exx chassis using WinKFP and the latest flash files from ISTA/P SP-Daten, but it is risky, and besides the software and cable, it requires special know-how.

...I don't know anyone that knows anything about a 238xi though.

Thanks shawnsheridan, maybe the only option I have is update it to 2012 maps. I think those are on DVD. I just have to track those down. Oh and pay to get a FSC code for 2012 maps. Kinda disappointing really.
