You should be able to do it. You downloaded the same file as I did. 21.2 GB.

I think GroveTuckey is dealing with an E9X vehicle. BMW states that it has to go to the dealer for the update, however I have information from a very good source that if you have a CIC and USB port, the USB update method should work for you.

I am getting a headlight replaced this Friday due to moister getting in so I will ask then. It would be nice under some strange 4 year 50K warranty loophole I could get that updated. My cars production date was 7/2009 and that may just be a couple months to early for the USB upgrading deal (for some anyhow).

If all else fails I will try the 2012 maps via DVD to get me more up to date maps.

If you have DVD you can download extracted file on a DVD instead of USB and try uploading via DVD. Use Nero or any other software.

The problem with that is the file is to big for one DVD. If there was a way to spilt that up into three DVDs and the system know to move to the next that would be nice. But I don't think that is possible. If anyone has done this please pass on the DVD structure for each.

Has to be burned to 3 dual layer discs, then you have to code them so that when the iDrive gets to the end of the current disc it asks for the next disc in sequence or you risk it just sitting in a loop. Not as easy as just burning the files to DVD. If you had a copy of the older DVD discs you might be able to Frankenstein a set together, but you still risk killing an ECU if you get it wrong.

Dealers may have a copy on DVD...if they do they've been purpose built by BMW.

Don't see why they would care. They're still getting paid for their labor.

Call each one of the dealers in your area and ask them. A good SA/technician won't care. They're not getting paid extra for selling you an FSC code. Another dealer could have cut you a deal for all they know.

FYI.

In GIANTALIAN's 's picture, he is extracting the .RAR file, hence the larger size and the name, v.2013_NA_PREMIUM_CIC_USB.part01.rar.

In GroveTuckey's picture, and what you are seeing the same of, is the extraction of the .IMG file, hence the smaller size and the name, BMW_NAV_2013_NA_PREMIUM_USB.img.

FYI.

When you extract from an Archive with WinRAR, WinZip, 7-Zip, etc., they extract the files and folders in the archive to a temporary folder, then copy the files to the location you specified for extraction. That is the copying you were seeing at the end of the extraction operation.

Just got some new information about the E9X models and the USB navigation update. BMW states that it has to go to the dealer for the update, however I have information from a very good source that if you have a CIC and USB port (9/2009), the USB update method should work for you.

I ether need to find someone around Columbus OH. that has the USB (and has successfully upgraded) to see if it is just the drive I have, go buy another USB drive or just suck it up and go to the dealer I think the only way I want to go to the dealer is if I can get the iDrive updated so I don't have my issues in the future, if that is truly my issue.

Are you using USB 2.0 or 3.0. 3.0 are the newer ones and may not be recognized by your system.

So long as it is Fat32 formatted, I don't think USB 3.0 would be a problem, as they are backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

His build date is what concerns me as it is pre 09/2009.

Shawn I have a 2012, can you send me the update details? Thanx in advance.. I just returned from a road trip was misdirected several times by the CrapNav. Can't believe BMW has the nerve to charge $250 to repair their POS nav system. To bad they don't get the same bad press Apple Maps received.
