Bogus Z4 reprogramming ?

2005 Z4 2.5. Original owner.

I had BMW do an electonic repair. They reprogrammed the car as they told me they would do and I expected it to be done.

Soon after that a had a foreign auto shop (not BMW) replace a part in the convertible top mechanics. Without authorization they also reprogrammed the car and charged me. Does this make any sense at all or was I swindled ?

Thanks.

I will review it with them this week but I can't imagine why they would disconnect the battery to do this job. They simply removed the plastic cover over the top mechanicals and installed a new twist cable.

Is it required to reprogram if the battery is disconnected ? The invoice says 'reset system'.

BTW, the invoice was $350 including only the $80 cable as a part.

Thanks.

I don't think disconnecting the battery of a 2005 requires reprogramming.

I just changed the battery on my 2008 Z4. I had to "reprogram" the clock. The battery was not totally dead, just not strong enough to crank the car.

You do not need to 'reprogram' or 'recode' the car everytime you disconnect the battery.

What cable did they have to replace on your softtop?
