First 5 series...loving it

Hello everyone,

New to the forum. Just jumped out of my 2011 750i to a 2016 550i M sport. This forum was a big help with my research. The 7 was nothing but problems..never been happier to be out of a car with the exception of an E350 Mercedes after a previous 7.

I ended up getting an executive demo lease with 3,000 miles on it. I'm loving this car...very well optioned with M, driver assistant plus, luxury seat package, lighting etc. I plan on upgrading to 20" rims at some point soon, tint and maybe a spoiler. I really love the M5 wheels but I know they are pricey.

Love the engine, love the finishes...not loving the jet black. My last two cars were both metallic black...but I've never had a car get as dirty as this one. I'm looking into doing a coating (3M?) or a ceramic treatment (I'm really ignorant on this stuff). With previous cars I never seemed to care that much...but I want this puppy shining at all times!!!

That's one hell of a car and yes jet black will show dirt like no other paint but when cleaned and waxed oh lord...it just turns heads. Congrats on the purchase.

Great looking 550.

I've had a number of Jet Blacks over the years. They are indeed hard to keep looking new. However, they sure are sharp.

Yes. 20" wheels make a big difference. I am also going to upgrade to M5 20's as well once we get through winter here in NE.

Any thoughts on what I can do to help the car stay cleaner longer after a wash? I'm trying to understand the benefits of the 3M vs the high end details like the ceramic coats. Sadly I park outside so the rain kills me

I don't have any knowledge regarding the 3M products.

With Jet Black you have to wash it consistently.

I switched to Mediterranean Blue this time and it is a very sharp color, however, it also needs constant care to remain looking sharp.

I am fortunate to have a detailer who will pick up my car once per week and wash/wax it for a very reasonable price.

Beautiful car bro congrats! I have the same car in carbon black metallic and it gets dirty literally 5 minutes after a wash and it lol i plan on getting a paint correction once the winter is over to bring back that shine. As for the 20 inch m5 wheels ive heard they dont fit the LCI 550i models due to the size of the calipers. i heard spacers and really thin tires work though

Yeah I've got to do something to keep the wash holding up better. Is a paint correction similar to the "ceramic" treatment I've read about? Sorry to sound ignorant I've just never done anything beyond a $150 wax in my life. But for this car I'm willing to spend the $$ if it actually works.

I have to believe there's a way to make the 20" wheels work. Seen lots of pics in some of the other forums. But again I don't understand all the details when people write about the technical side. My service advisor is a good guy so hopefully he can steer me right

No paint correction removes swirls and light scratches on the car that occur over time and has the paint looking brand new. Ceramic coatings and other things like that are very expensive a good detail shop near my house charges I believe 800$ for a ceramic coating which only lasts about 2 years and the prices go up if u want it to last longer (they jus apply more then one coat)

Just over two years in with my 535i and I am still loving my 2014. This month I bought new tires, extended warranty to 7 years 100k and the prepaid maintenance. Loving it, but feeling broke
