Until then there is no evidence that BMW has acknowledged an issue. For the last 10 years folks have complained about drive by wire claiming undesirable drive response at times. Nothing has changed with any of the models that I am aware of .

You can believe what you want but I saw with my owns eyes two documents that my son-in-law downloaded from BMW on his work computer Friday morning that were software updates to fix the hesitation issues in the F10 series, and it had the word "Hesitation" in black and white. I WILL get a copy and post it here!!!

If you are referring to your profile, that is because it is in .xml, which has HTML tags in it that the forum thinks is BB Code. Remove all the tags (e.g. "header" "/header" etc.).

Really hope it improves this time and won't fall back to lag mode in a few weeks!

I sent an email to my son-in-law and asked him to see if he could get the info you were wanting. I know he kept referring to it as an DME update. He told me what DME stood for but I forgot.

As I said before the car is performing great now. No hesitation at all. I did have a problem where it would start off in second gear and then with no extra pressure on the gas pedal, it would all of a sudden down shift to first gear like it couldn't figure what gear it should be in. That is totally gone now. I hope this a permanent fix now and the adaptive controls don't screw it up again.

Gents- So I too have had an update done to attempt to correct this issue. The dealer did the update and it was documented as "bulletin 12 09 11"

I do notice a big difference, but has there been another update in addition to this one, and since I think it's fixed, I am wondering if there is another that improves the fix even more.

How do you define the "tip in issue",

Is it not a "delay in engine response", aka "hesitation", aka "tip in"?

If so, then SI B24 02 12 dating back to March of this year is that document:



The issue then was EGS (transmission) and DME (motor) software calibration was "unfavorable".

Now it seems there may be another new SIB addressing it again.

Yes, please do keep us updated after a few weeks. I'd like to try it out myself, but it's like pulling teeth when asking BMW to update the software, with tonnes of excuses and "it's normal"s to avoid doing the job.

He was aware of the problem but could do nothing. What do I tell them to get a software update if one is now available?

You show him SIB is 12-17-12 (when we have it and assuming your car is affected) and tell him you have the problem, and expect the SIB solution applied.

So, what ThreeI wrote is absolutely correct.

The new SI B12 17 12 is again for "delay in engine response" with N52T / N55 Engine and 8HP45 Transmission to 03/31/12, and is a follow up to and replacement for the above SI B24 02 12, and the problem remains unfavorable EGS and DME software.

The fix then was ISTA/P 2.46.0 (or higher). Now it is ISTA/P 2.48.1 (or higher).

So, the "tip in" problem has now been documented, not once, but twice.

Anyone know if the fix addresses "take-off" hesitation or only while decelerating?

From reading the SIB, the update only addresses a certain use-case which may not be the main complaint on this forum.

It was my understanding that the main complaint was hesitation in general.

No, the main complaint is starting off from a stop. The hesitation under way is less prevalent.

Still too early to tell because the car might seem ok and wonderful for the first week after the update, then deteriorates and returns to square one. Happened in the previous "global update", and I'm not holding my breath on this one.

My tip-in and idle surge problem was resolved after the last update (and from wiping out the previous learned data). They also re-programmed the steering module on that visit and fixed the mild pulling issue of the MY2011s.

On a related note - especially since Shawn is following this thread. Can the car be coded to start in first gear even when not in sport mode? I assume all 5's start in second when not in sport mode, but my 550 does for sure. I'd love to change that.

Not that I have seen, but I have not spent a whole lot of time in the EGS or DME Modules either.
