2009 535i totaled - Worth more than I thought

2009 535i, Space Grey Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Cold Weather, Premium, and Sport Packages, Sport Transmission w/ Paddle Shifters, Comfort Access System, Bamboo Anthracite trim, Moonroof, High Beam Assistant, Sirius, Logic 7.

Totaled in an accident my wife had by T-Boning another car. Pics attached.

From what I could find on KBB and related sites, I figured it was only worth $28K - $30K. State Farm ponied up $33.7K. Car was in excellent shape and had just gone out of warranty @ 51K miles. Thankfully the two new Continental Extreme DWSs had not been installed and were still sitting at the tire dealer. Of course, she had just filled up the tank that morning.

I'm wondering what a car like this, and in this shape, brings at the salvage yard. Estimated repairs were going to be north of $22K and that was using non-OEM AC, radiator, and AC condenser. My guess is this had to be worth $40K at the bone yard.

Since we've had no car since before Thanksgiving, we ordered a new X3 x28i yesterday. Planning on building in the country in the future and wanted to give the AWD model a try.

Wife is fine, little sore was about it. Airbags didn't even knock her glasses off. Car sensed the collision was not the violent.

Yea, this is #2 totaled. This one was her fault, ran a red light. First one was a head on that was someone else's fault. He's some picks of that totaled 525i. She was pretty sore after that crash.

Insurance is pretty high just because I live in St. Louis city limits. This accident will not reduce it.

I'm gonna miss that car, probably one of the fastest and quickest I've even driven.

I bet somebody will pick up that car and restore it. Looks very salvagable. It's a Sport version too, great car. It does not deserve the bone yard.

So that's where the air bags come out. Great pics and sorry about your cars. Defensive driving classes may help your wife.

Good thing you were in a BMW in both those events .Cars are replaceable people are not.

She is currently driving a Chevy Cruze rental car. I think in another month or so I could have been at the point where she was used to driving the Chevy. It would have saved me a lot of $$ over the 2013 X3 we just ordered.

With the aluminum frame rails, the car will most likely be parted out. Not many shops will even bother to repair aluminum.
