Plastidipping my winter rims?

Hi guys, I'm thinking about plastidipping my winter rims on my 335 coupe. It's alpine white and I wanted to make the rims black. I wanna know if anyone has any suggestions, comments, or pretty much experience with it, like putting it on. From what I know it's fairly easy, cheap, and comes off cleanly as well.

P.S. I attached images of my car and winter rims. I also attached images of my friends trailblazer and his rims he plastidipped. (Yes, I'm aware there's a difference between a chevy and bimmer)

That's interesting. I wonder how well it holds up?

From what I've read up on it holds well. Apparently if it chips you can just peel it off easy too. People have done their bodies as well

I have used plastidip. It is awesome I did it to a friends car and after 6 months they still look perfect. And he has driven a long way with them. I say do it. There is no prep work no sanding anything just wipe down the wheels and spray let it dry and you are done.

Recommend metallic sprinkles while plasti-dip is fresh.

I kinda like it; think it would look better with thin spoked rims though. Since it's easy to pull off give it a go. Will show a lot less brake dust if nothing else.

Yea I definitely think thin spokes would look better. But I'd rather have my ugly winter rims be black loll

If you don't remove the wheels before plastidipping, make sure to cover your rotors. I use plastidip on my car, I've done the grills, reflectors, side turning light, and 335i emblem is next. I was actually thinking bout doing my wheels. Good Luck

Did my wheels a little while ago. The plastidip holds up well, though I suspect that I didn't put it on quite thick enough as the outside circumference peels every now and then. Re-touching up the wheels isn't a problem. I used flat black, and it blends beautifully. I also have done my grill and that has held up perfectly. If I were in the northeast still, I'd definitely do the whole car each fall. It's very easy to remove and offers quite a bit of protection.

i did my winter rims - used flat black - applied 3 coats as suggested from someone on another forum - they turned out really nice IMO!!

apply 1 coat let it dry for about 10 mins than apply second coat etc etc

3 coats should do it right!!

We used it on my friends 07 335i two summers ago. We did the window trim, wheels, and side markers. He had already bought a matte black grill that matched.



The finish is very nice. I would recommend doing six light coats. The thicker you spray it the easier it will be to remove. One coat is pretty much impossible to remove. We took the first wheel off, but decided to do the rest on the car. We stuffed news paper behind the wheels to guard the rotors and used an old sheet to block overspray on the car. We used playing cards tucked between the wheel and tire to block overspray on the tires. It gives a nice edge and is easier than tape.



My friend parks his car outside and drives it a lot. Last summer we put a few new coats on the wheels to freshen them up, although they didn't look too bad. The window trim and side marker looked nearly as good as the day we had applied it.
