335i Recall?

I just received an email informing me that there is a recall notice out on my car. I will call the dealership service department tomorrow but thought I'd throw this out here to ask if anyone has dealt with this. My car is a 2012 335i, May 2012 delivery. I did see the post here about the 328 coolant sensor. Perhaps this is the same thing. Will see tomorrow... thanks.

I just posted this in another thread. There is an open BMW campaign/recall on the FEM firmware for the 2012 and some 2013 BMW 3 series cars. The update fixes issues with the trunk opening along with some other potential annoyances. Worth doing!

Just called service to set up an appointment. This recall is to re-program the front electronics module (FEM) to address intermittent issues. Advisor cited issues with wipers,
windows, dashboard ligthting, trunk, door locks. I am having this done tomorrow.

I have a 2012 as well but haven't received any notification. Mine was an SA build so maybe that has something to do with it.

You should know that this isn't what many consider a traditional "recall". You aren't going to get something in the mail, or a phone call. Some dealerships may be proactive, but many will wait until you bring the car in for your next service appointment before performing the work. A quick call to your dealer service department can confirm.

I know for me the update fixed intermittent problems I had with the iDrive screen rebooting while driving, and made the kick to open feature of the trunk much faster and more reliable.

The dealership called me about the recall for reprogramming. They had it all day yesterday and called me this afternoon to say that they fried the FEM trying to reprogram the ASS. Due to the holidays and such, I won't see my car until Jan. 2! I have a 328 loaner, but I miss the 335.

Update - I had this work done yesterday. Note to anyone who is going to get this done - make sure to save your profile prior to bringing car in. I am new to BMW - forgot about this ability - and I didn't realize that all my settings would be gone after this update. So - I need to re-program seat position, mirrors, pair phones, shortcut buttons - etc... could have been avoided if I saved my profile. Also - I assume the dealer could have done this also - ie saved before service and then restored after. Oh well. At least my door locks work right now.

My dealer saved and restored my profiles after the update. Some techs are probably lazier than others.

This should be a standard part of the documented procedure for this service and not something that varies based on the work habits of individual techs. I will mention this to my service advisor.

Just picked my 2012 328i and had the following "Recalls" completed:

SIB 121912 (Does not specify what this covered)
SIB 613612 (Program FEM)

Haven't noticed a great deal of difference as of yet...

Got my car back this morning, which was a few days earlier than estimated. The ASS button is now set to default to the last setting on engine shut down. I don't know what else was "fixed" by the reprogramming. My cell phone was still paired, and the grage door opener worked. The only thing that got reset appears to be the seats and mirrors and that's not big deal. The loaner 328i Luxury was nice, but I was sure glad to get the 335i Sport back.
