Question TCU Service bulletin - how long

I'm beginning to think my dealer's service department in incompetent. Has anyone (other than R6Girl) had the TCU repaired? If so, how long did it take. They have had my car since Friday and are telling me they need approval from BMW to repair the problem. I've seen the Service Bulletin and it doesn't look like it should take 2 days.

They did R6Girl's car in 4 hours. Is my dealer BSing me?!?!

R6Girl has an X3, you have an M3, two different TCU units thus different times. Get a second opinion from another dealer if you aren't confident with your dealer's work.

Thanks. From the TSB "posted by Cobradav" in another thread it appears that the process is the same, regardless of the vehicle.

None the less they have the car and I have to wait. I just have my reservations about the dealer as they gave me the run around with the installation of the Siruis reciever a couple weeks ago.

If you have read any of my past posts on TCU Units, I had 5 of them put in in a 9 month period before they got it right. At one point they kept the car for 5 days because they had to let it go into a sleep mode to see if it was working ok because they were having so much trouble with them. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they are telling you the truth. I was also told that they have to get approval from BMWNA before they can install them Good luck
cheers

Hi Vern,

I think I did read your post about the replacement. Are you using the BT feature. My phone would work intermittently then stopped all together. I thought it was my phone but it turns out it was the TCU.

If you're not using the BT, how did you know it stopped working?

Thanks!

I was on a trip and had a stop in S.C. when I decided to check the S.O.S. for a location and it wouldn't go through so I called them on the cell and they told me I lost contact and it was probably my T.C.U.Unit and I should take it to my dealer to get it corrected and they would notify the dealer,(JMK), and BMWNA of the problem. Take it from me, its a very good idea to check it often.Good luck I don't use the BT.
cheers
vern

My Assist NEVER worked properly, despite numerous visits, calls, etc. I gave up on BMW and losing the radio function while I was busy "testing."

POS imho.

Hard to believe GM could get something like OnStar to work pretty much flawlessly and BMW can't.

Replacing the TCU on an E60 5-Series does require authorization and it seems often a reload of the car's software as well.

Not really a reload but the sw must be upgraded to the latest PROGMAN.

That's what I meant. I ended up having a PuMA case that lead to my car getting 20.02 which is actually not an E60 related release. The thing works which is good enough for me.
