Need wheel opinions!
Hey guys, so i just inherited a jet black 2000 540 sport and i am looking into a new set of shoes for her (might be selling used style 66s, might keep for autox and shennanigans). I really like the look of a black face with a chrome lip on black e39s. I have never heard of the company DAKAR but i like a few of their wheels, the DAKAR Sigma being my favorite.
![]() i have searched endlessly and couldnt find them on any e39. I was thinking 19x10 and 19x8.5. with 275/30/19 and 245/35/19, im no expert on tires and wheels though so any input is appreciated. The offsets are +25 in the front and +40 in the back, so most likely i will need at least 20mm spacers for he back? I used a speedo calculator on the internet and calculated that if i was doing 60.3333 mph the gauge output would be 60, (well 55, my speedo is about 5 fast) so that solves that problem. Lastly it has sport suspension but i have a feeling it will be much to high, ive read wonders about bc racing coilovers and kw v3, but anything cheaper to drop it an inch or two? Sorry such a lengthy post. Thanks guys |

Hi There, Lovely wheels you have picked up as the preferred choice. Never heard of Dakar either. If you are selling your Style 66, and if its 17" I might be interested, please quote me a price..Thanks.

I would want to stick to OEM just for quality sake - but that's personal preference You have any pics of your car?

Hi
This subject has been discussed thousands of times and there's many many wheel style designs similar to the DAKAR wheels you've spotted. For the Suspension aspects, this also has been discussed thousands of times as well! The offset on the wheels you are looking at is incorrect for an E39, so instead of running big spacers, I'd suggest finding wheels made specifically with the correct offset range for the E39. Ensure you get wheels with the E39 specific centre bore as well. The tyre sizes you've put up are the recommended ones for an E39 running 19inch wheels. You can go to 235/35/19 front and 265/30/19 rear with no issues as well and to give you more choice in tyre choices. BC Racing are getting excellent reviews for their mid priced/level coilovers and the KW V3 are high end fully adjustable items for ultimate control for rebound and damping etc, with a price tag to match. The choice is ultimately yours, and there's literally hundreds of wheel choices out there, so have a look around and make up a shortlist of ones you like and importantly, have the right specifications ! Cheers, Dennis! |

I put 20" lexani wheels on my E39. The purists hate it but damn it looks sexy. It's just a cruising car so I'm not too worried about performance - but if you are I would stay OEM and just powder coat them black
