2013 Z4 35is Melbourne Red Metallic

I just took delivery on my new BMW Z4 35is. It took 9 weeks exactly from the time of ordering it on November 12, 2012. I love this car. The acceleration is so smooth and fast. To improve the ride, I just changed out the run-flat tires and will write more on that later.

UPDATE: Here are links to threads on changing out the run-flat tires:

Looks great! Congrats! Interesting sound level comparison. I could have sworn the Michelin PSS is quieter than the stock Bridgestone RTFs.

Your car is absolutely beautiful! That's the exact color combo that I am thinking about ordering next year. Enjoy your new Z4.

Z4 Launch

I have not yet launched my new Z4 35is. Since I plan on keeping the car for a long time, I have decided to following the BMW recommendation (in the owners manual) to break in for 1200 miles first, and ignore the salesman's last comment to me, "There is no break-in period on BMWs, so drive it like you stole it."

In reply to morfinx, yes the Michelin PSS do sound a lot more quiet than the original Bridgestone Potenze run-flat tires. That is why I was so surprised by the sound recording levels. I am convinced that it is a function of the higher pitched whine on the RFTs that makes them sound louder. It is especially noticeable on new concrete highways.

Good idea on the "Break In Period" as hard as it may be to obey. I asked for opinions when I took delivery of my 2012 35i and everybody on here told me to do what the book said. My client advisor told me give it about 500 miles, my service guy told me give it about 200 and then let it loose. This might be fine for these guys who have a dealership at their disposal but I wasn't going to take the risk. I have wondered about you guys who do have a 35is how much launching was done and if you thought it was doing to much harm to your cars to be doing it. I have a friend with an 06 Gallardo who has NEVER used the launch system on his car. Once again your car looks awesome. Enjoy it in good health.

That makes sense and lines up with what I remembered as well when I changed from the stock RTFs to PSS on my 335i.

Looks like I'll be seeing you around town Are you north or south?
