Mein Auto: 2005 X5 4.4
burning oil

i have 05 X5 4.4 had oil change 4 thousand miles ago have since added 1 1/2 qts. of oil , no visible leaks under the car. where's the oil going. X5 has 91,000 miles

Probably out the exhaust. Are you getting light blue smoke out the tailpipes? N62 is famous for valve stem seal leak, and oil passes into the combustion chamber and burns out.
It's noticeable after sitting at idle maybe 5-8 minutes, then hitting the accelerator pedal to see the smoke.

See post above yours by a few slots. May be valve issue. My 2005 X5 with 147,000. I do 3,600 miles a month and add about 1 quart. I change with filter and full synthetic every 7,000.

Did you get a warning light or did you just notice the oil consumption the old fashion way? (checking the dipstick)

I pull the dipstick once a week. Like any good pilot, the guages are nice, but I want to eyeball it myself.

The joy of redundancy.
