2013 ed

Hi,

I'm planning a European Delivery for a 740Li, for May - June 2013. I have some questions, any help would be appreciated:

1. On the BMW Welt website, it says that they do deliveries on Saturdays as well, but it's less than a full day, they do deliveries for only few hours. My dealer claims they only can schedule a delivery Monday through Friday... what gives?

2. What happens if you have an accident during ED? I do know about the insurance, and the full coverage except for theft (where you have a 10% deductible...). But what happens if you get in an accident outside Germany (let's say Hungary, Poland, Romania) and you have to have it towed to a small locar dealer, and if the repairs are complex / lasting few weeks for example, and you obviously have to leave it there for that duration. Do you have to fly back and pick it up when is ready / bring it to Munich or one of the other locations for drop off? Also if it takes that long, this would make it likely for you to have your insurance expire while during the repairs - how do you bring the car back to Germany?

3. How about minor accidents - ie bumper nicks, things like that - can you just get a police report and bring it like that to the dropoff location?

Thanks a lot

#1 don't know. May be reserved for european customers?

#2 it will trucked back to Germany for repair and then sipped to you.

#3 I wouldn't worry about these. They'll get fixed at the VDC at the port.

#2 I had my BMW dented in Italy which I did not turn into the Italian Police because they would not show up for a day or two. I just drove it. When I dropped off the car in Munich i noted the body damage and it was fixed at the VDC. VDC is the best body shop in the US by far. They are awesome.

BMW. The work was done in the US at the VDC in New Jersey.

Your dealer is mistaken. Saturday deliveries are available.

This is just one of the many reasons forum members here (including myself) recommend using a Client Advisor who is very experienced with European Delivery.

Small correction:
Your insurer paid for the repair, not BMW.

Allianz paid for the repair. Allianz is the insurer that BMW uses for European Deliveries.

#3. I ground the right front wheel of our 335is into a curb in Salzburg resulting in curb rash around the entire wheel. The wheel (& tire) were replaced at the VDC in Oxnard, CA, which unfortunately added another 4-5 days to redelivery because they didn't have the distinct style 313 wheel in stock. You don't need a police report for minor dings, scratches, etc., particularly if there was no other car involved. Just point it out during the visual inspection when you drop off the car and it will be noted on the inspection sheet. This doesn't absolutely guarantee that something will be fixed however. There have been isolated reports about the car making it through the VDC and showing up at the dealer without the repair(s) being made. In that case it needs to be pointed out to the dealer.

I had a minor bumper scratch which I did not report at drop off as I did not want a delay. It was fixed at VDC. Took about 4 days extra. Undetectable repair.

If you have a really bad accident on the autobahn and pieces of your BMW fly everywhere, they will close the autobahn in both directions and sweep up all of the bits of metal. They will bill your estate for the cost of the clean-up.

I will be driving my 2 kids around... so my highway and any other type of driving will be done with great caution and extremely good behavior What worries me is having my car getting damaged while in Eastern Europe. I doubt that Allianz will pay for it to be towed 1500 km back to Germany as someone (3ismagic) suggested above, and the repairs traditionally are of poor quality and take a long time to finish when done in Eastern Europe - don't ask me how I know - I grew up in that part of the world So in these conditions, I would actually expect to have to leave the car there for probably few weeks to months, then fly back to wherever I left it and drive it back to Germany for the drop-off. Again, the concerns with that are that the insurance will likely have expired by now.

I probably worry too much...

BMW and Allianz will take care of it one way or another, as long you are in a permitted country according to the agreement that you will sign.
