iPod Classic 120gig stability

Hi all,

In my 30d in the armrest I have connected my old 120gig Ipod classic with the standard white Apple usb cable.

Most of the time it works very well, displaying album art and allowing full control via steering wheel but it will periodically disconnect itself as an external device requiring a reboot to get it going again.

Any ideas ?

Would the y cable improve stability or be a waste of money ?

Cheers
Mark

does sound to me like a loose connection, which is most likely in the cable, and is the easiest/cheapest thing to replace. Dunno why a Y cable would be needed, just a regular USB to 30-pin iPod cable should do it.

I had the same setup: iPod Classic, Apple cable, X5d

The iPod would often disconnect, and sometimes not shut down and kill the iPod battery.
Fully operational only about 50% of the time.

Replaced the Classic with an iPhone 4 (without phone service, so essentially an iPod Touch).
Still occasionally disconnects, but fully operational about 95% of the time

I'm running an iPod Classic 120gb in my 2013 X5. It seemed to disconnect a lot. I went to bmw.com/update and updated the software in the X5 and the iPod went from about 40% reliability to way close to 100%. The software update is simple and straight forward. The latest version is 2012, which even being ancient, it still seemed to resolve most of my problems.
