rparik01, Congrats on the new F10.

rparik01 & hufington, if you don't mind, can you guys provide what is the actual purchase price before any incentives on your ordered F10s? I'm thinking about placing an order for a F10 with either Freehold or Bloomfield by the end of the month. Did you guys work with Ivan?

Thanks

Overall process was pretty good. Don't have too many complaints. If you give them enough time, which I didn't, and the car is actually ready you can be in and out of there fairly quickly. My car was still being prepped and detailed when I arrived at the dealer so I had to hang around. Signing the papers and everything was smooth - no surprises (except the mats.) I already purchased an aftermarket tire and wheel insurance so declined their offer at $2,300. Obviously, they told me the downsides to my company but I'm still optimistic.
(Couldn't be happier with the interior choices, well will still miss the side bolsters but that's expected)

Sounds great. I am glad that they did not mess up the delivery. Which tire insurance did you get? I can't wait until my car arrives. It is at the port of Halifax now.

Check out post 21. Talked to yahtzee5 and got in touch with his guy. He said he used them twice before on his 550 without any issues, so I'm hoping for the same results. Can't beat the price and it looks identical to other 3rd party insurance. They all seem to say to get the claim pre-authorized and the insurance company will pay the dealer direct with a credit card.

The wheel and tire insurance I'm getting is through First Automotive which is I think $762 for OEM tires and wheels for 4 years and I think it was around $970 for the upgraded one that covers after market wheels and tires. I forget if it's 4 or 5 years. Yes you have to get the work pre authorized but they will pay it in full. My dealer told me about the insurance because he knew the one BMW sells is way overpriced.

I love the reassurance. Did you get it from Ray Catena up there? Also, I think you may have gotten 5 years because the form from First Automotive only offers 3 or 5 years. They couldn't give me 4 years for my 39 months lease, so I took 5 for the extra $100 bucks. He mentioned I can "return" whatever time I don't use even if I have claims, but I'm not counting on that.

I have not paid for it yet, I will be doing it right before I pick up my car in about 2 weeks. No I did not go to Ray Catena (Westchester BMW) actually was not any local dealership. I have been using a dealer in Brooklyn for years for various leases and I do all the negotiating with him over the phone/email then he lets me decide which dealership that he participates with to pick the car up from, whichever is closest to me. Unfortunately the dealership where I am getting the car is in Orange County about an hour or so north of me though I will get service from the local one about 15 minutes from me. He was the one that told me about the 3rd party insurance, he is not like normal dealers trying to mark everything up. I searched First Automotive and seems to be a popular 3rd party insurance and depending on the dealer you take the car to they may do the work and get reimbursed or you have to pay in full and get reimbursed from First Automotive. You should call around to the BMW dealers in your area to see how they work with First Automotive.

I don't think that Bloomfield would participate in a deal with First Automotive since they were sceptical about them to rparik01. I need to find a good authorized service despite the fact that Bloomfield is the closest one to me right now.

Nobody wants to hear you turn down their products - especially the finance department. But, I would check with the service department there, always had great results with Chris although it wasn't tire work.

True. I still think that they need to offer a more reasonable price for the same coverage though. People do shop around for a better price and with a lower price they'd have a better chance of selling that insurance.
So, when are you getting your tint and coding done?

By the way when are you going to update your sig? Your car is not on order anymore.

Definitely agree with lowering the price. After I told the finance dept. I had third party protection he said I should have told him before in order to work something out. I actually did call the dealer but they never transferred me to the right person.

I sent Dreamcar a message about coding, so I guess whenever he is free and I sent out an email to the Tint Shop - should probably just call.

FYI, CK also sent you a couple PMs. Signature updated.

I told another dealer in the area that I would do the wheel/tire insurance for $1,000 but they did not care how cheap First Automotive was doing it for the really won't budge, doesn't make sense to me unless it really costs them a lot. They wanted like $1900++.

I'm going to get coding done remotely instead of driving an hour or so to meet the guy who does it. Can't wait to get the car and have that done. I also got lucky and located a tint shop 1 mile from the BMW dealership that I called and they said they work with the dealer and said I would pay them direct to avoid markup for the tint, the dealer would bring the car to them and they would tint it and have it ready for me when I sign and drive. I had that on my last car and I love picking up the car already done and not having to find a tint shop, get a ride there and back, blah blah..

That's an absurd price for tire/wheel insurance. They are loosing business by being greedy.

Some of these dealers don't understand that your are building relationships not selling something. I am a real estate broker and we build relationships we don't "sell". Sure I can sell 100 houses a year but I want all of my clients happy and I do the right thing if need be to make the deal work. This brings in way more sales and money then getting full price for some stupid overpriced wheel insurance.

I remember my 1st Mercedes they wanted $550 to tint the car when it costs at best $300 for them to get it tinted. They want to make a profit on every little thing, in the long run it pisses people off and not good business with bringing back past customers and potential new referrals.

The reason why I use the same dealer for every car I get is because he always does the right thing. I have sent him soooo many people because of that.

+1 for the concept of building relationships, which works in so many industries and yet is utilized so very little.

Building a relationship is a two way street. And sometimes it can be destroyed by some other guy that's not part of the relationship.

I was building a pretty good relationship with the sales associate at my local BMW dealership over the course of a few years after I had purchased my E60 from him, but when the finance guy wouldn't budge on his "take it or leave it offer" for my F10 order that was $2,200 more than what I was offered from an out-of-state dealership, where do you think I went? Where do you think my business partner and other friends will go when their leases are up over the next few years?

I want the dealership to make money. Had the local finance guy even gotten within $500 of the out-of-state dealer's already profitable deal, I would have struck and gone local because of my sales associate. I felt bad about what happened, so I took the sales associate a very nice edible arrangement for Christmas to try and keep the relationship going.

Not building a relationship costs you. Sometimes it is some unrelated guy that "doesn't get it" that destroys things. In my case, it was the "finance guy."

The reason why I use the same dealer for every car I get is because he always does the right thing. I have sent him soooo many people because of that.

I agree with both of you.

The stupid "get as much as you can get" mentality is killing me as well. Relationships and referrals are the most important part of a business.

They are definitely loosing business with their attitude; however, I started to think that the finance managers and sales managers do not care too much about building relationships because the turn-over rate for employees in the car dealerships is extremely high. They just want to cash as much as possible in as little time as possible and move on. They can show what they did to another dealership and get hired for better salary and incentives. They are the greedy ones and the big dealerships’ owners don't care too much as they have lots of money and also as the brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. are basically selling themselves. If you don't buy from them, there will be other people pissed off by other dealers that will come to them. It is a sad process.

For the tinting, if the dealer quotes me $400 instead of $300, I'd go with the dealer so that I don't waste any time and buy the convenience of it since my time is much more valuable (as a consultant, I am billing my clients hourly and I rather work an hour more and make more money than I pay to the dealer for the mark-up). But knowing that the price is $300 and you are asked to pay $600 for it, is just pissing me off. I would never do that although I can afford it, since I really dislike the "I am smarter than everyone out there and I can screw them any way I want" attitude.

Nothing wrong with the dealers making extra money and that’s the reason of their existence as well, but it should be reasonable.

I didn't catch earlier in the thread, if it was said, what tint brand is being used in both of these cases.

I had 20% tint "all around" (not including front windshield) applied to my E60 and it was $180 and done well and the tint was "guaranteed" from the usual problems.

Thinking of using the same place for my F10 but am undecided. They did not use 3M. I'm considering it but don't know how pricing compares.

No brand name mentioned.

3M is great so are Madico, Llumar and Huper Optik. People swear by all these depending on their experience with the specific brand. Also, the installer is important in selection of a tint brand. If a reputable installer uses a specific brand and another middle of the road installer uses a brand that you want, I would go with the reputable installer. Therefore a lot of research and comparison is necessary when choosing. I am in the same boat right now.

The dealer sent me some teaser pics (see sig). It's sitting in Nebraska waiting for the weather to clear up. Likely not getting it until next week :-(
