Years ago I bought the adaptor unit that BMW and Apple collaborated on(from the dealer). I have an '03 with HK and nav. It involved running a wire from the monitor/head unit in the dash to the radio in the trunk and re-pinning a connector or two. I ran the 30 pin connector into the glove box where my iPod has lived ever since. It has worked well, but doesn't support the charge function of the iPhone, and it wasn't designed to work with a multi disc changer. If I were you, I'd check the WIKI on this site to get the latest on this audio upgrade.

There's several aftermarket options available that will plug into the factory CD changer harness in the trunk. I've used: http://www.diceelectronics.com/
It will charge the ipod/iphone while it's plugged in and you can change the tracks directly from the head unit or he buttons on the steering wheel.
