Apprehensive Driver
Every time before I even start our '97 328i BMW in the morning, I am apprehensively awaiting something else to break ( BMW = Break My Wallet)
And sure enough it has come true EVERY month since we bought it. Within one week our radiator hose blew off and car overheated and we spent $900 on a new cooling system. Then our alarm system quit. Then the automatic locks quit. Then the Bimmer started spiriting and stuttering rsting in another $500 repair. Then the power steering hose started leaking which I haven't the money to repair but I did fill again and again with tranny fluid. Now the drivers side window went off its track! What's next? |

Sorry to complain but everybody is constantly telling me what great cars BMW 328i's are , but mine has been, from almost the day we bought it, a nightmare. I literally have NEVER bought ANY preowned car in 50 years of driving and buying used cars,
owned a seemingly good running car at the outset that breaks down every month. I was just getting ready to sell this car while most of it is running good when the Driver's window dropped of the track for no reason out of the blue! Now, no one will want to pay a decent price for it, plus, I will be honest with any buyer, it will "BMW = BREAK YOUR WALLET!" |

Next will be the suspension components that are 16 years old that you hadn't bothered to either replace, or confirm that they were already replaced before you'd bought it.
Or your car will 'suddenly' develop a leak 'somewhere' and will have puddles of water in your interior, or your trunk due to the clogged drains that you haven't cleared. What else haven't you maintained on your spanking new vehicle?

If you want to know what a real unreliable car is, drive an Xj6. Then we will talk.

You are kidding right? I've owned at least 25 used vehicles over the years and NEVER had one that had so many problems in a year like this piece of crap! When it runs good, it's the most beautiful car I've ever owned, but that only lasts about a month then it breaks down!

You purchased a 15 year old vehicle with evidently zero maintenance done to it, didn't do any prior research into a model's peccadillo's, didn't get it inspected, then you blame all BMW's for the neglect to your particular example?

If you wanted a car that you can buy without any knowledge of, and do nothing to. Buy a Honda or a Toyota. Don't complain here. That is not welcome. AT ALL.

Buying an old bmw is an awful idea unless it has been maintained.
Buying an old bmw is an awful idea unless it has been inspected. Buying an old bmw is an awful idea unless you're willing to do preventive maintenance. Buying an old bmw is an awful idea unless you are willing to get your hands dirty. (or) Buying an old bmw is an awful idea unless you are willing to pay others to maintain it. This list goes on.

"Fix it" says Finance-guy,
If I had unlimited money to fix this BMW, it just makes me mad that this car has so many problems that even need fixing constantly. What is it with you BMW apologists? The BMW line of cars are absolute pieces of crap and I am sorry I ever ventured into them, I was totally mislead by advertisements. And , before you answer my rant, I have nothing negative to say about their paint and bodywork as I was a painter in the body shop at Niello BMW at Sacramento for two years! I actually love the style of the Bimmer's but not the mechanics! |

When you buy a used car, expect it to break... I've bought countless cars that needed minor and major issues fixed, but I know what I'm getting myself into...
My M3 needs suspension, bushings, door handle fixed and other MAINTENANCE items... but I know what I got myself into... these are great cars if maintained properly and it will break down no matter what!!! But you complain about a window that came off track... big deal... suck it up and fix it, or lube yourself and take it to a dealer to get it fixed...

My bad because I did not join this forum before I bought my seemingly good running BMW. I would never have bought it had I done so.

just crawl under there with a screw driver and tighten the power steering hose...you're making alot of noise about things that aren't a big deal
rubber deteriorates, seals leak, it happens...no apologies here for bmw here as I have had a ton of crap come up (and the list is pretty extensive) one after the other on my car for the past year...difference is I threw mine on jack stand and broke out the tool kit for as many as I could manage and had to come out of pocket twice because I couldn't weld (no fault of the car) and I didn't have a lift and air tools... stop complaining and ask for help on how to fix that window or how to fix that leak... fyi from what it appears you haven't even seen the underside of the car...there's stuff under there that will cost you a pretty penny to pay someone to fix too... or a weekend day in the driveway to diy... your choice |

But whining about how much of a lemon the car is is still free right?

This car was purchased for my wife to drive 800 miles round trip for visits to our daughter and grandchild instead of renting cars like we have been doing.(Can't fly because she has to take so much stuff down with her) I now can't hardly let her go 15 miles round trip to her work without worrying about a breakdown. I was just getting ready to sell it when the latest stuff happened.
I'm not whining, I'm just sorry I ever bought it! |
