modest upgrade ?'s

Ok so i have searched the forums and obviously read many opinions but im not looking for some major increase in HP. I have a 528i.. 1997. Just want it a tad quicker if possible other than that Im looking to get M5 or 540 anyway but my 528 is good to me plus it looks good too. So any suggestions on modest upgrades..

Replace the VANOS seals. Best upgrade available.

so i guess the proper question to ask is i dont care for the hp increase.. i really want more throttle response and a little torque increase...is that possible without spending too much money? as mentioned before I'm gonna get a M5 or 540i 6sp anyway, but i still want the 528 to have a tad bit more jerk

If you want more jerk, be less smooth with your clutch engagement. If you want to actually go faster, put any 'upgrade' monies into the 540/M5 fund.

Hi,

In your first post you mention 'major HP increases' and then you say in subsequent ones you just want a 'little' more increase! if you are planning on getting a 540i or an M5 why not just save the cash you were going to spend on the 528i and put it into the funds for purchasing one of those faster variants ?!

If you do want a little more on the 528i anyway - look into the Vanos seals as already mentioned, if they've already been done and your engine is in a good healthy state, get a good quality re-map. You'll perhaps gain 5-8 genuine HP but the torque delivery is much improved and 'feels' as though you've gained more. Flat spots and hesitation in the rev range are removed and if you wish, you can increase the rev limiter by 500 rpm. There are many on this forum who'll say it's a 'waste of time' - but they generally are 'only' looking at HP increases and NOT the enhanced Torque delivery.

Cheers, Dennis!
